Ok so i am looking at getting a new lens for macro photography and im wondering how much of a difference i will notice
currently i have a
- 18-70mm Nikon DX (focus up to 1.3ft)
- 70-300mm Nikon D (focus up to 5ft)
but keep in mind since it is on a digital camera it is really a 105-450mm and that brings things darn close at 5ft away

here are the 2 lenses i am looking at
Nikon 105mm/2.8 AF MICRO D
http://www.nikon.ca/products/af-micro-105/

Nikon 60mm/2.8 AF MICRO D
http://www.nikon.ca/products/af-micro-60/

So if i could get some feed back on if you all think this is worth it or not, it would be very appreiated

I am very happy with my Tamron macro lens. See below for some examples of what it is capable of. It's alot cheaper than a Nikon I think. I have a D70 BTW. I don't have my camera with me right now but if you are interested I can post the model no. etc. later.

Very impressive Sam and i am very pleased with the Tamron quality in thoes... because i have heard a few times that Tamron and Sigma are the same as the nikon "G" class lenses but that deffineatly helped my decision a bit seeing some images from basically the same camera

The "G" and 'D" designations do not indicate the lens' quality. "D" means that the lens will provide the body with distance information (hence the "D") for the 3D Matrix Metering. "G" denotes lenses that have no aperture ring, like the Canon EF lenses, aperture is controlled electronically through the camera body and not through a ring on the actual lens. The letter is not used as a quality indicator, like the "L" with the Canon glass.

As far as macros go, 100mm (or 105 in this case) is a good length for general work, as you don't have to be 3" from your subject. Macro lenses are a lot of fun.

On a side note, its really is a unfortunate to see that Nikon still hasn't incorporated the AF-S motors into most of their line-up. This was one of my main reasons for switching over to Canon in 2001, after shooting with Nikon gear since 1986. Almost all of Canon's lenses, macros included, have the ultrasonic or USM motors.

hmm thanks Will i guess i have been mislead by being told that the D series has a better build quality and that it has better optics in it rather then the G series
