I'm sure we had a post about this a loooong time ago, but I was wondering where people's user names came from.
Mine is a little odd, so I'll start the ball rolling: it's a sort of tongue-in-cheek name (no, really, I'm not a superhero). It's the name of a spoof character from a game called Sim City - he appears occasionally to save the day and is also regularly mentioned in the spoof newspaper that appears in the game. It amused me, so I use it sometimes for a user name on various sites.

Mynx = a characther I used to play in the game Quake III, and when i opened my first e-mail addy with this name, it wouldnt just accept Mynx.. so i had to put another m and 34 was my age at that stage.. so.. mmynx34.. that was 4 years ago :)
Uhm ... I would think that mine is self-explanatory.
My first love ... music.
Well, that's what I told 'her' over a candlelit dinner, Luther Vandross playing in the background ... rose petals covering the foyer and leading to the table ...
Oh, and those English spelling lessons from our very own Andrew (cgImagery), came in handy for the final version. :PP
smooches? lovers? oh im soooo here *shrieks, then tries to deny hormonal teenage status to the rest of the board...* aaaaanyway, hehe *looks sheepish* moving along from that...
Mine is just a compression of my name. "Robne Vin"
I just got so tired of people asking how to pronounce Robne and the what the ancestry of Vin is. Just so tiring .. and the constant likening to Vin Diesel and the endless questions of if I'm his younger more-fit brother.. sheesh. And people wonder why I don't post my personal image.
Well, my name came about a few years ago as I was thinking of a good name for some website, and ever since I've just been using KingIan whenever it isn't taken, which thankfully, isn't often.
An Asrai is a faerie born of the water. I have always loved faeries and while reading the encyclopedia of the fay I came across the Asrai. I love the ocean, and the sound of the name was so pretty......I have been Asrai ever since at every web site I visit. I am asrai*s_treasure on eBay...that's the only real variation.
Not so interesting, I know....just wanted to contribute. :)
mine comes from my fascination with monkeys but also to do with the monkeypuzzle tree, appearently it has medicinal qualities. & much to my dismay nothing to do with confusing monkeys. which is in turn tied up with the confuse a cat sketch by monty python....... yes thank the pythons for the my username :~)
SR-71 is one of my favorite bands, and they have a song called "Non-Toxic". They talk about a "non-toxic, ordinary day" and since it wouldn't all fit-nontoxicday.
PS- gamer as well, but prefer CoH and CoV (when I can afford the time cards).
Mine is a lengthening of my middle name Rae that I use as a character name when I play RPGs (role play games) with a few of my friends. It means thunderbolt in Japanese.
Iona is a coastal island off Scotland. My parents were golfing in Scotland, and were told about this isle that they must visit. So my dad says he forgot to put his raincoat on, it took a while to figure that one out! Iona is so pretty, like me, wishful thinking, lol, and that is why I use it as my name.
You know. actually I must admit I should have had a second thought before setting to this name. Actually I tried few whitch were cool but were used. I haven't seen any of those names in actual use though... :S well I got frustrated with none of the name available and then just typed this one....
[and if somebody didn't know frenger comes from friend and stranger and is the name of Mew's album. frengers, not quite friends, not quite strangers....]
I made up mine while playing Scrabble with some friends, trying to use all my letters. They actually beleived it was a word for a little, untill one looked it up :(

I'm an Earnhardt Fan (NASCAR driver). Dale Earnhardt was an awesome racer at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Florida. As is his son, Dale Jr. I changed Daytona to "Dale"tona. Then added my first name. It's also the domain name for my Tribute/Fan website for Dale/Dale Jr.
um I'm slightly paranoidish I believe you should never give out your full name @ random on the net. There's all kinds of kooks out there, you really wanna make it easy for them to find you?
Hi,my name is Rob..ok, so I'm not the greatest at replies and comments. Sorry. For anyone needing to contact me, my email is back up in my profile. >> my cluttered mess of a gallery
I would rather live my life as if there is a God and die to find out there isn't, than live my life as if there isn't and die to find out there is.

I knew why Rob had his name, I figured it out about two months ago :P
Mine... mine's my internet name. If you see it anywhere else on the internet, you can guarantee it's me. The g, l and p are my initials and I just shoved an oo in there, and then the ical to make it sound crazy. Hence gloopical.
Mine is pronounced hjee-MOAK...which is supposedly an old world French-Slavic derivative meaning "big dumb mindless ox"...In old-time NYC, "Jhihmoac" (or jimoac) used to pertain to any one of the easily manipulated, one track minded circle of gentlemen that usually surrounded a bombshell floozy at a bar or nightclub...

came out of it...I have it as a pretty standard username of mine.

Mine was given to me at the family's annual Mardi Gras party...we had a "Bayou Murder Mystery" one year and I was assigned the part of Gator Beudreaux (Gator Farmer at your service!) and the name stuck...
Mojave Storm comes from a looong time ago when me and a buddy where looking for some cool online game names because we were tired of being "Player 1." So while we played Red Faction I just made it up out of no where, and my best bud named himself "Apache Blizzard," which goes along with Mojave Storm. That was about ten years ago and we still use our names for almost everything. Gooood memories :)
I made the critical mistake of thinking that my first name coupled to my surname initial and country of origin would be a sufficiently simple nom de plume only to subsequently discover that most people think my last name is chuck. wikipedia and the decline in education standards has a hell of a lot to answer for :-)
Lauren - if I made it through a full day with someone calling me Chuck and nothing else I could live with that - sadly it's more often than not another brief name starting with 'C' :-)
BTW wasn't Chuck Peppermint Paddy's nickname for CB - my Peanuts knowledge is a bit misty.
well, here's my story. my real name is jennifer (i call myself the only really old jennifer). i then got the nicknames of jen and jenny. sometime after we were married my husband who has a penchant for making up names decided that i should be "jeenie the weenie" (cute, huh). the entire "the weenie" name would be a rather pathetic caedes name so it went from there........
Basically my name is in reference to my love of music and my smile of course! There's more to it than just that but that's all I am giv'n up. ~winks, smiles, waves, and walks away~
My name is Andre. One day I wrote a drunken email to my friend Amy, and because of the [you guessed it] drunkenness I spelt my own name wrong, and it stuck. Andfre is pronounced Ond-fray. Incidentally Amy has become Amfree so two nicknames were birthed that fateful day. The best part about it is that its virtually all mine in cyberspace [except for a male entertainer in the Bahamas grrr].
= Arty to I.T. - Would be my official business name if I could get any work.
Arty = arty stuff
I.T. = 'cos I'm a PC engineer too
Simple, yes, that's me!
Well my name is JEdMc91
the first letter of my first name.......then the first 2 letters of my middle name and the first two letters of my last name and then the year I was born :)
I don't really know how I got this name..I've had it for years now.
I think Shewolf got picked for me by my mates (at a time when I wanted to change from my old username), they think it suits me..and ofc I won't argue as I love wolves.
Well mines from the yrs and yrs of Online gaming i do ... Frags are what you get for killing someone online, more frags the better !! I was a menace at a particular game i played and got lots and lots of kills or FRAGS so fraggy is just another option... had this name for 8 yrs ish now
Mine was an almost radom thing. The "4" is actually replacing Russian letter "ch", and the "9" is replacing the word "ya", which means "I". It's a first couple of words in a song, meaning "Why did I..." :P. Yeah. Not entertaining... But it's mine forevermore.. I also think it's unique in non-RUssian 'net.
Biffobear,Well my name comes from a comic book figure called Biffo.Whilst serving on active service in the jungles of Borneo my Platoon leader commented i didn't look out of place in the forest as i was the spitting image of Biffo the Bear,Needless to say that name given to me in 1964 has stuck with me to this day..Biffo.
oops, and this cock up makes me ask the question although we can edit a comment, why can't we delete it all together? For when the likes of me enter it twice.....
entering "it" twice is done by all of us .. we usually blame it on a server hiccup and shake our fist skyward ... don't sweat it
as some people like to come along and delete "what" they said .. the fact that they did say something remains to help others figure out why the 'flow' of comments no longer makes sense .. in those rare cases when the stuff we talk about does make sense, I mean
we are lucky to be able to edit our comments, can't do that at DevArt ..
Well, I play water polo and I do swimming, and I used to have extremely bad asthma, so when I first started I felt like I had water in my lungs whenever I tried to swim a few laps.
So that's where mine originated from.
Oh, and I'd like to clarify that I "DO" swimming.
I just can't bring myself to say that I play a sport where all you do is swim back and forth for a couple miles a day.
Ok, mine has a rather...ahem...interesting past.
My best friend and I ran a sensual massage biz in SFO for a couple of years. I took the name Akasha, which is the 5th element (often referred to as in akashic records). Strega is italian for wise woman (sometimes called witch). So since I do not follow any organized religious beliefs, and studied to be an herbalist/naturopathic, many said I was pagan or wiccan...hence witch...Strega. So when working in SFO running this biz, and knowing you cannot use your true name in the Industry due to potential stalkers, I began going by Akasha Strega. As a computer name it just got mashed together and lower-cased (for ease of typing) to become: akashastrega.
My monkey avi is just because I have some weird (and long-held) fascination with Chimps...they have always been my fave when I went to zoos, and still are when I take my kids...love Chimpanzee's
my name is my name for every username I have, but its a heavy metal on the element chart and it was my uncle's idea of a "nickname" so all my relatives called me that. woot woot for smart relatives!
My username was my nickname at school. I was called that because my first French language teacher on the first day of secondary school called me that. My surname is the French for braces (suspenders to our American friends). It's also the French for bra-strap so I'm lucky I wasn't called that at an all boys school!!
Well...CanoeGuru started when I went canoeing down the Juniper Springs run with several friends. It so happened that there was a boyscout troup going down the run at the same time. About halfway down the run, we encountered some boyscouts hopelessly pinned between two treebranches, unable to maneuver their canoe back out into the run! So, my boyfriend at the time (now my hubby) and I paddled over and got them unstuck and on their way. My friends dubbed up the "Boy Scout Rescue Team" and started calling me CanoeGuru! We thought of having "Boy Scout Rescue Team" t-shirts printed for our next trip. hehe :)

I think might be a bit obvious for some. I spent 12 years Military service doing 2 tours to Saudia, 1 to Columbia, South America and 1 to Denmark. Satellite Communication (SatCom) was my job.
You know I asked my mom that question recently. "Mom, what were you thinking? I mean - Regmar?" Her answer was classic Mom. "You were the third of three boys. You were supposed to be a girl. When they told me you were a boy I told him to name you whatever the hell he wanted. I wanted to call you Holly. And don't complain either. If abortion had been legal in '63 you wouldn't be here." Then she loaded up my plate with her fantastic jambalaya and collard greens, smacked me in the arm, winked, and told me to get the hell out of her kitchen.
