Bit of a rant here, against the illiteracy that seems to run rampant in our culture today. Post your favourite non-word and by all means elaborate as to how the people that use them should be mercilessly bound and tortured.
I, personally, believe that people that use the word (non-word?) irregardless, should be subjected to the entire Shakespeare's works as performed by Snoop Dogg. Irregardless, of their pleas to stop.
Can I ax you this...I have an ideal...Iraq says it doesn't have nucular weapons...
I hate when the language ets butchered. It is ask, not ax, idea not ideal, nuclear not nucular...etc...like curtains are nor curdans. Thats my rant about words. I exspecially (especially) hate when people use a big word that is WRONG...like...oh she'll be on time, she likes to procrastinate. Huh??? Folks need to study the dictionary a bit more I think. Foshizzle!
Momentarily. Does not mean "in" or "after" a moment. Does mean "within the span" of a moment. Thus, when a TV announcer states, "We'll be back momentarily", he unwittingly is telling us that he will be back, but only for an instant. Same with flight attendants who announce, "We'll be landing momentarily". If that indeed is the case, you'll need to jump quickly onto the runway, because the plane will be on the ground for only a very brief period of time (split second).
On the other hand, you and your first love might have locked eyes momentarily across a crowded room.
"Everyday" when used in advertising, such as "Lower prices everyday"; rather than in the correct way, "Everyday low prices". In the first example, it's the same as saying "I brush my teeth everyday" or "I buy the thursday paper everyweek"...
Well I must say our amazing poet Snoop Dogg has really helped to make people literacy-challenged. Literacy=
Most dictionaries define literacy as the ability to read and write. Today the definition has been expanded. Many now consider literacy to be the ability to locate, evaluate, use, and communicate using a wide range of resources including text, visual, audio, and video sources.
I have nothing against Ebonics, or any other new language...but someone please tell me what FOSHIZZLE really means, and why is Ebonics taking over as the main spoken language? I's jus gotta ax this.
I recently overheard a "debate" and one person mentioned Cli-in (Clinton I believe). How hard is it to say CLINTON the T is not silent, it is not Cli-in.
With the onset of text message and abbreviations the spoken word and as a consequence written word will change whether we like it or not. I dont know about any of you but I work on computers all day and we have 3 A4 pages of abbreviations. I dont type a sentance. Unless it's an email etc. The needs are changing I feel.
"Miracles occur, If you care to call those spasmodic tricks of radience miracles. The waits begun again. The long wait for the angel, for that rare random descent" Sylvia Plath.

Some comments and hopefully, some elucidation. In no particular order ...
Foshizzle, as in fo' sho.' Or for those of us Ebonically challenged ... translates from 'for sure.'
Binary Finary, a very very good tune. In all it's mixed and somewhat, evolutionary forms.
PC vernacular. Again, I believe all forms of communication have their place. Hmm, killed two birds with that one ... FOSHIZZLE! I, too, will use the abbreviated forms that have become rather commonplace ... brevity, it's a good thing.
Green. Love it, and not 'momentarily,' either ... *grin.*
Non-word for the day ... well, watch the news ('everyday') for the latest ... the script editors and the word bytes they come up with usually leave me scratching my head and not ranting. For example, as this unfortunate story fades from page one status, ... settling on 'evacuees' for the poor people affected in the States by the recent hurricane.
There, I think I have paid proper tribute to those that have contributed thus far, irregardless, it's the thought that counts. Ok, Snoop ... bring the wordsmith on ...
I saw an commercial once, for the Wall Street Journal no less, in which some text on the screen stated "only in the CONTINUOUS" United States" instead of CONTIGUOUS. I was shocked when I saw it...foshizzle!
If the automobile had followed the same development as the computer, a Rolls-Royce would today cost $100, get a million miles per gallon, and explode once a year killing everyone inside.
VIGILANTICS: When a silly prank is utilised as revenge for a percieved injustice. EG, "In a blatant act of vigilantics, he stuffed a banana into the tailpipe of his teachers car."

An aside, I do ... do like Snoop Dogg.
