A poem concerning the Hurricane

I felt the need to write tonight...having on my mind the many who have suffered such devastation in the terrifying events of Hurricane Katrina...I thought maybe it would be ok to post it here, even tho this is not the poetry part of caedes.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
in the company of darkness
(dedicated to those who have suffered
due to Hurricane Katrina)
darkness is not the best of friends
it's mysterious and stormy
it often brings with it much fear
in the dark we are so alone
sometimes tears are shed
and anger fills us
we suffer in coldness
darkness looms over us
smothers us with emotions
at times brings us nightmares
it can wreak havoc time and again
with utter devastation
but isn't it strange
how darkness can also be soft
alluring and even warm
it can soften any blow
can bring safety to those in fear
can comfort with silence
can be a shelter from the storm
and think of the fact
that the moon shines in the dark
that we don't see it in the light
there are birds that sing songs
only in the dark of night
and flowers that glow at midnight
when there is no need of sun
so when we think thoughts
of darkness enveloping us
we can also sing and dance
in the company of darkness
we can know there will
be light once again
Incredible how nature can be pitiless and how words can be so beautiful. Thanks to give us this breathing. Sometimes, we need it...
How lovely. Thank you Verena. The moon in the night after the hurricane was a relief, indeed to my wife and I as we fled under the lowering clouds and the lashing winds.
Those are lovely words...I too feel the desire to write at times and after Katrina struck I was wishing, even needing, to write something, but alas, of all the words, none would come that seemed adequate or fitting...so, thank you for this, Verena.
I like work; it fascinates me. I can sit and look at it for hours.
That was beautiful poem, Verena! And it ws so true! How the darkness can bring fear, yet it can also bring comfort...
It seems that you are just a very talented and artistic person in general...
very pretty poem, might consider sending it in to your local paper for a printing.
Look to the Future, Remeber the Past, but Live in the Present, and Never forget to tell those you love "I Love You", you may not get another chance.
