Where did my c-indeces go?

Dear all,

Before the new c-index most of my pictures had 80 and above as a c-index. The other onces I removed myself. However, now most of my pictures do not have a c-index but the onces that do, have an avarage around 50 or so.How is that possible?

I take it you haven't been here for a while?

O_o

make sure to take a bag lunch and leave word with friends that you're entering a deep dark cave known as ... The perfect voting system

The short version is ... well, who am I kidding, there is no short version

when the c-index had its back turned the perfect voting system (PVS) snuck up and bonked it on the head

Well, I come here at least once a week mostly more. Thing is, every once and a while the c-indeces are removed and show up again.

*shows you the cardboard box containing the old C-indexes*

You see.. the problem is that the old c-indexes were too big and were starting to overflow the box. Something needed to happen and needed to happen quickly. We either needed to get a bigger box or smaller C-indexes. You're suffering under the choice. *wink*

The C-index is now calculated differently. You need to look at the difference between images to see what a good image is. Normally a good image will have a c-index of around 50 - 60. (rough estimation)

I guess mine are good, because that's about what the c-index runs on them. I was getting tired of feeling good about myself anyway. :-)

I guess my idea of what a good image is and yours are two different things.. But I guess 41 years of experience as an artist doesn't count..

ADDS 41 years of experience as an artist MULTIPLIED BY by Regmar's self esteem DIVIDED BY Morwyn's non-existant gallery = ERROR.

Hmmm.

lol! Now that's a crazy equation! ^_^ The gods of Math and Logic will wreak havoc on your HD for making this mind-boggling arithmetical operation. Sorry, it didn't turn out like I wanted, it's hard to make even bad jokes on mathematics. :P

Ok, this is as good a place as any to ask this - I seem to be able to re-vote on images I voted on long ago. That made sense - If the c-index was wiped I could start again with images I wanted to vote on. But after voting on these old images, I get the opportunity to VOTE AGAIN. First time this happened I assumed I had not clicked properly, and re-voted. Then the vote button re-appeared again! I have not deliberately mis-used this, but obviously it can be misused. Am I the only one in this twilight zone, or has someone else tested this???????

I've seen this bug a couple of times. Not recently though. (I reacted similarly to you.) But I vote less outside the voting booth nowadays. You mean just the "voluntary voting", right?

I only vote in the booth now - no point voting outside.

I've never had the experience of voting twice on the same image (unless they happen to be ones I voted on aeons ago and have now come up in the new voting system).

To answer the original question: the reason c-indexes have disappeared is because the images concerned have not yet been assessed under the new voting system.

Which is exactly why people are voting less "selectively" and commenting less in general. The message here, intended or not, is that the only numbers/rating of importance to the future fate of images here is the ratings they receive in the random voting booth. This is really unfortunate. I tend to feel as you do - - that there is little point in voting outside of the voting booth because, from what I've read, selective votes are not currently taken into consideration, so why bother?

AAAhhhh - so there is NO voting outside the voting booth? I didn't realise this. I guess it will be aeons then before any voting begins to matter to me. I had over 100 votes on some of my older images, and from those figures I had begun to draw some sense of success or otherwise. Now it will take so long I will have moved on regardless. oh well. Makes Rob Nevin's idea even more attractive. (opinion voting).

Mum42 - The new voting booth system actually makes it quicker for new images to get votes. New images receive the highest priority and then any other votes are assigned to the older images.
