Hello again fellow comrades. I hope you are all well and enjoying life with vigour and passion.
This thread is intended for a brainstorm firstly but also way of finding out the do's and dont's of catering to the masses being an owner of an establishment that serves alcohol. Hhhmmm booze.
All I would like to see is what your ideas are for good nights in a smaller venue than a club. Basically in about 15 years time I will be buying a venue as I am very people centered and love being social I wanted to know what makes you tick.
My Pub/Bar will be called "Monk at the boatrace"(questionable). I will have 2 karaoke nights a week probably monday and wednesday. A quiz on a Sunday. Rock on a Tuesday, R&B on a thursday. Chilled breakz on a Friday as people move on and finish work knackered. Saturday Funky House leading to Progressive for a real driving night of energy and passion for my place. Really cool bar staff. Good attitude and during the day mega butties (sandwiches, think of their wastelines).
What do people want when they go out? If it is a while away what would you think you would like?
Be as wacky as you want, just remember what would you really like to do on a night out if it was in 1 place for most of it. What would you expect/enjoy?
But bars are hang out spots, not get drunk spots, but on those very frequent occassions.........how about the lady bartenders do dances on the counters like every 30 mins or so?
Here in Fresno we have a little hole-in the-wall bar called Club Phredd. It hosts local bands which play assorted musical styles from grungy, to bluesy and all in between. It is a great way o showcase the little guys from the area, and the atmosphere is very laid back and almost bohemian. They hav a pool table and 2 dart boards, and people go and have a drink, listen to really ood local bands and just chill. One of the bands they have featured has just been offered a contract...so Club Phredd can always say, we had them before they were famous! For being a tiny pub, it packs a whollup. It is the hottest place in town, and when they get really packed, they just open the doors and let the party move outside to their deck area which is decorated with plants and Green Man wall fountains and such. Just very funky and relaxed...lots of fun!!!
Kim it's a deal. 10 Years I will send the return ticket for you and Clay.
Lady Rhea, take out the booze then and where would you like to spend time with friends?
Andy - You select the staff and cover VIP, think health and safety might say something about coyote ugly esk shannigans.
Jenn sounds wicked. Bohemian is a fantastic theme if correctly applied. Plus you said PUB, we are going to get on just fine.
Well, when you get yours set up, I wanna be on the VIP list to get in, because I'm sure you'll pack the place...
And Kim, hiring Male Bodybuilders (but not too buffed, just sexy muscular) is really a very hard task, so I would like to volunteer my services to help you out...don't need you to become overwhelmed by the stress of the job, and you know I'd do anything to help a friend such as you out!!! 8-)
And Lady Rhea...what IS a pub without the booze??? Believe it or not, if the atmosphere is right, good pubs/bars to breed obnoxious drunks...most folks have a few and just chat with friends, shoot pool, etc...
**by the way, my G on my keyboard hates me, so if any have been omitted, just throw on in where you feel it needs to be**
akashastrega, the things I will do to help help Nikoli..sure I could use some assistance. Its a HARD job, but a neccesary one. Nikoli, I will take you up on the tickets for Prism and I in ten years.

I really don't think your bar's name is very good. I like "monk" and "boat race" but not together. If you're going to have music, "Monk's Funk" might work well, especially for advertising.
This has nothing to do with the topic...but you have to upload a picture of yourself Nikoli, because you are one of the most unpredictable ppl on the site, u kno. I think you should have lady dancers :)
The only reason im unpredictable is that Im very busy in my life and forget where I am up to. I seem to have lots of ideas but cant put them into practice, however with a Bar/Pub this would be my nest egg.
I would like a calm and reserved clientel, ideally me being the DJ playing funk, breakz, and smooth choons. I like bare floor boards and big press stud cherry red leather sofas and arm chairs, there would have to be a starkness to the establishment without loosing itimacy. And a converted cellar for a dance floor or something along those lines.
right on man, i think its a great idea. I think you should have a night where up and coming DJ's play their playlists and mix it up and whoever wins keeps the spot until next week, thus promoting better sound each week. The Funky Monk. . .hows that?
If the automobile had followed the same development as the computer, a Rolls-Royce would today cost $100, get a million miles per gallon, and explode once a year killing everyone inside.
Nope, srry Nik, not me, I'd probably be dancing around like a crazy person, lol. I like the name Sadoc picked out, I can just immagine people saying, "Hey, lets go 2 TFM tonight!" Lol, if your going for calm, cool and collective, this is just an idea, but try lots of couches, throw rugs and warm earthy colors, like dark reds, browns, tans, and some olive greenish colors...ect. I would deffinately pay The Funky Monk a visit if I weren't under age. :) As 4 the music, what you had stated earlier makes great atmosphere!
Im far to tecky and minimalist for that. Clean crystal line accentuated colour flashe's in floor and wall lighting. This would be my saturday night;
Champagne/ Vodka coctails. Sushi for Kim / Pints for Prismagic / Vodka and Cherryade for Phil / Absinthe for Whitewidow / Sadoc + Andy ? are too busy chatting up the podium dancers. Jenn dressing the Male Strippers ready for their performance. Along comes Camerahound to the Funky Monk and the doormen part to let in the lead member of VIP.

WAIT! I work with Jen as it was my idea...Sushi is good and pints for Prism...My brother put himself thru UCLA working at Chippendales and as a devoted sister I had to support him by showing up so I know a good one when I see one.
