Wow... none of my pictures are that small. Is there a program (for macs) that can compress Photoshop Elements pictures? Or.... wanna up the limit? Huh? Huh?

I may be new... but I'm learning (just agree with me here folks...)

What'd you do Beo? The limit has been at 1 meg for a while now. You should easily be able to get most 1600x1200px images below 500K with little loss of quality though. It looks like your icon didn't upload correctly too. I'll check that out.

I just open the picture in paint and then save it under a different name and it automatically reduces the size of image. Most of the time under 4 or 500k.

Opening the image in paint lowers the image file size immensely. My 'A Winter's Night' picture originally had been a bit over 1mb, after I had sent it through paint the size was only 250k.

What do you mean? Its just the regular old paint that comes with Windows XP, if thats what your wondering. The format of the picture is just a regular .jpg.

lol, I only do it because of *your* size restriction. =P All of my formats are in jpeg... btw

Cause the paint I was thinking of only supports bmp.

Yeah, on our Windows 98 computer paint only supports .bmp, but with the new version, it supports more formats.

With Photoshop 7.0, you can choose the compression to remain under 500 K. I think that Phtshp 7.0 exists for Mac

If I remeber right Photoshop 5&6 also allow you to compress saved images. If you dont have the cash to shell out look for Chaos Pro 3.02 it does a pretty good job for free plus you can make some cool fractals with it.

Elements (which vannav seems to say they have) should be able to increase the compression of a jpeg. I don't have a copy on this computer, but as I recall, it's almost the same as "real" photoshop. When you "save as" a jpeg, a slider comes up, and you can decrease quality to decrease size. A 1600x1200 at higest quality is around 1.3 megs, but increasing compression to drop size to around 500k doesn't lose too much quality. Just save an original incase you don't like the result. :) BTW, Caedes, when I read the word "Paint" my jaw dropped too. :)

Photoshop 7 is ideal. Open the image you want to configure and go to File]Save for Web. This is probably easiest.
