How come ...

When you're reversing your car (in North America) you're "Backing up" but when you're moving forward you're not "Forwarding down"?

Are there other such disconnected expressions?

Not sure if this is in the vein of this discussion ... but, I must admit I am a bit dyslexic when it comes to 'pushing an appointment' (deadline, timeline and so on) 'ahead' and the converse 'back.'
