NOOB IN NEED

Hi-
Yes, i know this should be in the Website-related department but i posted there and got only one [hostile] response.
I'm behind a firewall so i can't see *any* Cadex images. And i'm not skillful enough to tweak it as recommended. Can anybody tell me *exactly* how to tweak XP's built-in firewall so i can use Cades?
Hopefully,

Marinus

PS: And no, as a paranoid and snide cades member accused, i'm not an employee of a firewall company!

In the previous thread that you mention, Keifer is asking what firewall you are using. Without that information we can do no better than guess at what the procedure would be for changing your firewall settings.

[for future reference]

PS: Please don't cross post.

Oh, ok-
I take your point and hope you take mine [that keifers wording was both terse and angry]. Ok- so it was at leat partly a question.
But second time round i DID mention that i was using XP's built-in firewall.
As to cross-posting, my apologies.
I'll bet there are others who tried to join Caedes and never even got this far.
If you folks want to save yourselves the annoyance of dealing with subhumans like me, may i suggest posting detailed firewall workarounds in your FAQ?
Thank you so much.

If you mean the firewall included in windows service pack 2 than you should get a notification when trying to open the image asking you whether you would like to block images from caedes.net. You ought to have chosen "No". If you didnt then you can click -start- than -control panel- than -security center- than -windows firewall-. on the top of the screen click on the tab that says -advanced- and than click -restore defaults-. Now try veiwing the images again and the notification should pop up. If not than the problem isnt occuring with your firewall. And like the boss so subtly hinted, chill out.

i would be suprised if it is the windows firewall that is causing your problem. It doesnt' ussually block out pictures from my understanding. I have never come across this problem and i use the firewall.

What Internet browser were you using?

I found that in Firefox, sometimes the "view images" is disabled as to make surfing faster at the expense of pretty pictures. I'm sure you can do this in other browsers as well.

Firewalls would most likely not effect this. The only time a firewall would really intervene is if a remote entity(host/site) tried to connect to you or send you something without your computer asking for it first. The firewall would think of it as a possible intrusion attempt.

Browsers ask for images first, so your firewall would know you are expecting it.

Maybe your cache folder is full? Normally, you should allow for about 80 MB or more space. Images are downloaded to temporary folders and displayed on screen. Deleting the contents of your cache folder may help.

What I would really check for though, is to see if you have image viewing disabled in your internet browser. This is most likely the cause, and happened to me several times.

Hey there:) You may want to try changing your 'cookies' settings. I'm not really computer savvy but it may help. Welcome to Caedes btw:)

Hmmmpppfftt .. I just checked on that thread .. and your profile page .. wondering why you never came back .. does that sound like hostility .. come here gimme a hug

I'm a little dumbfounded with the windows XP firewall .. there is very little in the way of control aspects to it .. zilch, nada, zip

My guess is it's your browser .. if you use FIREFOX then check your .. "Tools\Options\Web Features" .. check that load images is checked as well as " enable java .. and .. enable java script

and

if you're not using firefox .. you might want to check into it (It's FREE) .. I had problems for 90% of 2004 accessing this site .. until I switched

FIREFOX
