Hi my friends. It's a long time that i pass my time on this photo site PHOTO SIG couse i had to learn and there i can find for almost each photo the information as f-stop , shuttered speed, lens, and above all the camera used. I'd like to see a form here that when i upload a photo ask me (not obligatory) to compile this details. I know Caedes improve itself a lot .....i hope to see this change here couse i start here.

Well, I'm no photographer, but that might not be such a bad option. Though sometimes photographers do include some of that information in their descriptions ...I also know that if you're looking for photography help you can scan some of the other threads where there are such discussions. This might help you, good luck Pier.

This is a great idea. You should do it.

Hi there, the idea is good. For technical info to be displayed can help others improve. But I must tell you honestly that I never look at the exact settings of the camera. I do adjust just about everthing in the camera, including contrast, white balance and..wel everthing but I never look much to the exact numbers. I just look and see when the effect that I want is there.
Asking me for all this technical data would be like asking me how far I extended my arm!
Never the less, I would have no problem in showing all the technical data.
But you must of course realise that it only goes so far. You see, I do a lot of shooting in RAW mode, and then I do all the adjustments afterwards on the PC. And to supply all that information, mmm, goes a bit (too) far.

This is an interesting idea. I don't know what it would take (programming wise) and how much added server space it would require. I believe that photosig is either a larger site or they must periodically cull the site in order to conserve their Hard Drive space. I think a letter (PM) to the big man himself would go a long way in answering whether or not it's feasible for Caedes. I do like the idea however.

A lot of cameras record "exif data" for images, and it's easy enough to view the properties on your PC and find out what settings you used. Pier, you might also like to try saving images from caedes to your drive - the exif info may well be saved with the picture and a look at the properties will tell you the settings. As Paul says, it's only part of the story, but it is a starting point when you're learning.

If I could remember any of those from my high school classes I would fully endorse this idea, but I just use a reg Digi Cam on Auto mode most of the time :(

What would be really sweet would be if the site was programmed to look at the exif data itself and display it for those who want it. I believe that is posible to do, as i think i have seen it before, but i have no idea how you would program it or how hard it would be.

We could add exif data. Why don't you suggest it on the dev site so that we don't forget about it?

Hey Pier! Long time without new photos from you! :-)
That's an old, but always excellent idea!
Very interesting to associate the technical datas with the view, to understand how we can improve our works.
Though, we must limit the specifications. example
What is the interest to know that the image was taken in RAW format? Only the result is interesting (and... the image was transformed and compressed in JPG to be uploaded on the site...)
Hope to see this improvement on the site!!!

I think this is a good idea as well. I have to admit, I tend to not look at my settings as well, but it is something that I want to start doing to try to improve my work so this would be a big help.

I think there should really be a section in the image post that gives the tech end of the image. I'm always curious, aren't you?

1. location
2. camera
3. lens
4. ISO/ASA speed
5 f/stop
6. filter if applicable
7. time of day.
8. software used

I'm complete agree with last 2 comments &prismagic and milo.
Another suggest is the browse for camera, really usefull above all when we have to buy a new camera ( Browse for Camera ) but maybe is to do better then in photosig, couse there, for the same model exist more then one link, so i think in the form have to exist only one folder for property model and when a user have to post with a camera not listed have to send a message to the administrator.
Let me know.
ps. i have try to post this topic on the dev site as Caedes said, i did but anyone can check it if i did correctly.
Thanks to all.

i wanted to mention this a while ago, but didnt get around to it. Its new to me so i thought i'd share incase anyone here didnt know. for those like me who are mainly a happy snappers, controling some of the variables in taking a photo then getting carried away being tripper happy, thus forgetting what settings they used. Some if not all of this info can be retieved by going to 'file info' on the file pull down menu of ps(on the pc). the resulting dialog box will have a few clickables. & Camera Data 1 & 2 will provide most of it, even if the original file is saved as a jpeg. hope someone finds this useful :~)

I was just wondering when you take a shot, and you have the data, then edit in ph or another programme, your not seeing the original image, is that right. Dwight.

Alot of image editing software will still retain the EXIF data, so editing shouldn't be a problem unless you copy and past into a new file. Then you will lose it.
