I have recently been planning getting a new Camera for myself and have been looking for something a bit more uniqe than a normal camera. I have been looking for a Hasselblad 503CW or a Hasselblad 501c Its a strange question but I'v saved up alot of money and have been waiting for so long to get this but I cant find a store that sells it or a website that sells it besides ebay. Any help is appreciated

Adorama (www.adorama.com) sell that and other Hasselblad models in their medium format camera section. hope that helps.

edit: the 501 is also available at www.bhphotovideo.com

bhphotovideo was helpful. Thank you for that. What might be easier though would be if anyone could reccomend a store in the Toronto or NY area. However I will still take into concideration any websites that may be just as or more usefull than bhphotovideo.Thank you.

BH and Adorama are both New York based and have stores there as well as online shops - from what I gather Hasselblad do not have any Canadian dealers preferring to service the region from the USA instead

Thank you for that. Just 1 more question. I personally dont know many people that own a Hasselblad. Would any of you recomend one preferably from a personal experience?

never used one but i must admit to being curious as to why you have decided to take the plunge into medium format film photography - is it something specific about it that your focusing on?

Probably the main reason why I want one so bad is because of the quality of the cameras. Apparenlty from past reviews and people I know who do photography. The brand is very well noted for producing fine photogrpahy equipment that can be easily upgraded and are very versatile in different situations. One of the best gallery of photographs using a Hasselblad Camera is I believe by Nigel Parry in his new book "Sharp". I think he has the 501c which was one of the one's I was looking at getting but right now I'm switching more to the 503W because I have been able to find it at a cheaper price. Im still a bit unsure right now what I'm planning on getting but I'll hopefully find something that can harness my area of intrest soon.

A freind of mine who lives in Ottawa has used a Hasselblad for many years doing portfolios of, oh, lets say women who intertain men at certain clubs. He has done hundreds and hundreds with the same camera. He would not trade it for anything out there.

I think that if you are to go to a film camera, you should stay 35 like a used f4 do to cost and availability at this time. See the 35, and medium format are going the way of the dodo. Soon you will not be able to find film do to Kodak and Illford pulling slowly out of the film and chemical paper industries. The only ones left will be Fuji and they will soon not be far behind. I think do to most pro shifting to Dig. The only film left for a while will be 35mm. But then it comes to whom and how will you develop it. It’s sort of like buying a very old car; you may like to drive it and wax it and look cool in it. The reality is as it gets older you can’t find the parts or the gas with high enough octane to drive it. So what do you do then? Maybe park it in the garage until the tires wrought off. That’s what you will do with the camera you want, but instead of your garage, it will sit on a shelf or become a very expensive paper wait. Well at least you can say you owned a Hasselblad.

Thats a good point I never really thought of it that way. Luckily I was just looking at the website they have attachments for the some of the Hasselblad cameras to allow it to be used as digital. I know it sounds kinda crazy but apparently its true. Unfortunatley its gonna cost me a few more thousand so I might not get it in one complete package but maybe a year or two after I get it. thanks for bringing that up.

you can always get a digital back. but if you price them out you will find that they seem to start at around $6000.00 used. So I would way that alot. I have a 645 pro and I have thought of getting a dig back for it. BuT I'm not quite ready for that large of a investment for a single piece of equipment.

I get what you mean. I guess its just best to stick with the regular brands for the time being. Anyway I appreciate you helping me and everyone else. Thanks.

you know all of these companies are pulling out of the traditional film and moving to digital or something else... but film will always be around some company will keep it going. i mean i use a Nikon D70s as my main camera and have no intention to move back to 35mm as a main camera but i also still frequently use a really old Canon AE-1 35mm and i am soon buying a Arca-Swiss 4x5 for a class... i have a feeling a lot of other people will be doing the same thing switching to digital but keeping their old stuff to use here and there... so i wouldnt be worried at all to go out and buy whatever you want

I guess you have a point there and I'll still try and get the Hasselblad but while this post is still at the top and I dont have to create a new one does anyone know how to keep the whole image in focus with detail? Right now I own a Rebel K2 with a 38-90mm lens and a 70-200mm lens I dont know if that helps but I'll give it to you anyway. Thank you.

Decrease the aperture on the camera and compensate with a slower shutter speed. (By decrease the aperture I mean bigger f-stop number.) Example: If you are taking the picture at F8, decrease the aperture to maybe F16. This will increase the depth of focus in the image.

Dude... if you're asking where to buy them, you probably don't need one...
Hasselblads are awfully expensive (count ~30000eu for a 39MP body + digital back, plus hardly less than 5000eu per lens).
Are you doing lots of pro work? I think that if you want to burn a lot of money on harware, you'd be better off with a nice DSLR plus lenses and other kit...
Good luck in any case!
