once in a while i run across this awesome wallpaper, only to find out the taskbar or my computer's icons covers up some of the picture. not cool.
well if you go to my soon to be uploaded tutorials, i will show you how to manipulate your desktop so you can once again enjoy the full beauty of your background picture!
It's very simple (For Win XP):
Taskbar: Right click on the start button. Go to properties. Click on Taskbar Tab. Check autohide taskbar. That'll have the taskbar dissappear and reappear when your mouse hovers over it.
For Icons: Right click on your desktop. Go to "Arrange icons by". Uncheck the "Show desktop icons" option.
Now you will have a perfecly clean, non cluttered desktop for only the images. Making the desktop a bit less useful, but much prettier ;)
Hey.. I like my icons.. Don't want them go to go away.. All that is too much bother.. I have made several desktop backgrounds with stepback frames so that the entire image shows above the taskbar..
You can, of course, drag your task bar to the top, bottom, or sides .. of course, you can only drag it to the bottom .. if you've already drugged it to one uf da udders .. which will mean this tip isn't very timely for you
I have icons 'hidden' on the desktop and have a taskbar menu for them .. (rightclick taskbar .. select "toolbars\desktop" .. you can drag this to the top, bottom, or sides .. and have it auto-hide, as well)
Thanks Keith. I have tried a few other means of hiding the desktop icons. Some small utility freebies ... but, if you do as the man with the nose (and cap and uhm, make-up?) says ... the nice thing is that once you go to click on the desktop in the taskbar, the folder options expand and open up. No more double clicking for me, tyvm.
And ... I use the quick launch toolbar menu as well (*same process as the 'desktop' one*) .. this keeps me out of the dang START menu .. which quickly becomes a quagmire
this picture tutorial i am going to make is for those people who still dont follow the descriptions above by using screenshots. there are some people who are more visual in following directions and it is likely there are those people here (seeing as how this is a image/wallpaper website) in fact, i will finish it right now... ill post the link to the tutorial when it is done.
