hi...i am having a helluva time getting photos to size correctly..have tried many suggestions from others using Irfanview, cropping, resampling, etc.cannot get most photos to fit within parameters stated by Caedes....do not know what to do...anyone using Irfan who can walk me through this in numerical format/steps; 1, 2, 3, etc.vs, narrative description?? Thank you whoever you are!!! Also can scan photos from non-digital camera, and wonder if can resize the photos there by pixel size........

I don't use infranview but this should work in most apps (from memory I think I could do this in MS paint). Just open the pic you want to upload; then open a new image at the size you want to upload (eg 1600 x 1200). Then just drag the image from the other file (the one you opened first) onto the 1600 x 1200 frame. After that you can add borders or backgrounds or whatever if you need to. Hope this helps...

thanks but i have no idea what you mean.............can you clarify...?? open second in same application/program?? Then drag it somehow to new size??? Just does not register ......sorry, I am a neophyte....i will open it in Irfanview first.then what?? it will be a large photo too..it seems if I could open the photo in the first place at correct size, i would not need to drag it and could just upload to caedes with aspect ratio intact..anyway, thanks again..

Okay, I just opened my Irfanview (it's a german version, so I don't know if my translations are correct, but you should figure it out easily anyway):
Open the image, then go to "Image/Change size" or just type the shortcut Strg+R. In the window which now opens you can specify the new size, either by individually typing the dimensions or percentages (left part), or by choosing one of the standard dimensions (right part). You can also choose if the new size should be proportional to the old one, and the resizing method to be used. After clicking OK, the image will get resized and you have to save it as a new file if you do not want to overwrite the old one.
I hope this was helpful, but it is really quite easy.

Tell you what .. why don't you state the dimensions you are working with (Your Original) .. and then state the dimensions you would like to post

everybody is forced to speak in examples and hypotheticals because we don't know the facts ... tell us the facts

since you seem intent on posting smaller than modern day resolutions .. I'm going to assume that your images are smaller than 1600x1200 ... ((( NOTE .. this is a HORIZONTAL image ... we need to all use the same nomenclature here .. we need to be on the same page .. )))

As I mentioned in the previous thread .. the CANVAS SIZE tool in Irfanview can be used to float a smaller image in a sea of black .. this will work for horizontal images as well as vertical .. just subtract the width of the image from the desired posting size .. then split the result of that into two numbers and input those into the border

for example your image is 1024x768

and you want to post .. 1280x1024

open the image in Irfanview .. select CANVAS SIZE from the IMAGE menu (it's under resize\resample)

subtract 1024 from 1280 = 256 ... divide 256 in half = 128 ... place 128 in left and right side border inputs on the CANVAS SIZE dialog box

then ...

subtract 768 from 1024 = 256 .. divide 256 in half = 128 .. place 128 in top and bottom border inputs on the CANVAS SIZE dialog box

I have asked for help because I am unfamiliar and have tried numerous methods on my own...you have responded as though I am stupid----this is not ok and I will not accept it. I was going to thank you , but given your reply and condescending manner, you do not deserve it. Do not bother replying...I will delete before even reading.
