Resizing

Hi, All! I now know how to resize .BUT sometimes my original is much larger =has a greater size that any upload size this site allows.....some are over 3500 x 2900 pixels, for example........so, is there a way for me to subtract numbers in resampling/canvass resizing using Irfanview?? Any help would much be appreciated.....anyone else having this problem??? I also sometimes find that (using canvass resizing) subtracting numbers and dividing in half=odd number as result and so results in slightly smaller/larger size than this site calls for.eg. one time it came out 600x801! Damn!!! Could not get it to fit because of having to enter number such as, for example 22.5, let's say instead of just 22........anyway, anty ideeas how to get this to come out so size upload matches site requirements??? Thanks..Andre

You should be able to shrink an image the same way that you enlarge one. The other problem you are having is probably caused by the image not having exactly the same aspect ratio, so when you have the option that keeps the same raito selected it wont go to that size. There should be some place you can uncheck to fix that i would assume. I have never used that particular software though.

Thank you Milo......my program does have aspect ratio if wanted.......are you saying i should uncheck it to prevent focus problems??? If I have in the past done so, then photo becomes distorted..so, I try to resize canvass instead....still do not know how I can shrink photos that are too large though...i mean to enlarge, one has to subtract smaller number from size that is larger ( the size needed to meet requirements for Caedes).i hope this is clear to you........do not know how i can subtract a larger numbe from a smaller one; that would result in a negative number, non??? How could i enter a negative number in Left/Right and top/bottom colums to resize??? Am I being at all clear??? My head is swimming a bit just writing about it! LOL..anyway, if you care to add more info, that would be good......I hope I have been clear enough/have given you enough information..........ok.over and out....thanks again! Andre

In the programs that i use, you can set the height and width of the image. So if you want an image to be 1600x1200 you would type that in and if the image is smaller then that it would enlarge it, and if it is bigger it would shrink it. I would assume there is a similar option in the program that you are using.

As for your other problem you are right that unchecking that can cause your images to be distored, but if you are only 1 pixel out it wont make much of a difference. Another way you can get the exact size is to crop to the size using a crop tool. Some programs allow you to set the size the tool will crop to.
