Ok im now suffering from mental trauma from losing my 100 c-index to a 46 c-index overnight!!!... so this post is an excuse for me to vent it out of my system..heres how my slightly paranoid mind sees the events unfolding....i'm blaming the top new images list.. originally after posting my Western Plains image, all the nice people voted and got me a 100 index which in turn got me on the top new image list , which made lots of people look at it.. who then voted me down and gave me a bad views to download ratio..lol..it also cost me a place on the authors list... and i was getting so close to Avi again.. :D... . thats my excuse.. although caedes says the 100 was probably a bug..:(...

Putting my paranoia aside for one moment ... ( feel better for letting that out) has a similar event happened to anyone else... anyone else suffered from bug index scores.. or suffered a major fall from grace... or an over night ascension to heaven... ???

Sorry about the mental trauma, Grim, but have to admit I'm relieved to learn that I'm not the only one who has had this happen. For me, it was a few days at 100 (Rainbow's End) then overnight (with no change in either views or downloads, and no additional comments) it dropped to 70-something. It has taken more than a month for the poor thing to climb back up to 99. I had thought perhaps one of the members had voted it a zero, but didn't have the courage to comment and tell me why.

Ah, well, at least we're no longer alone in our misery (mystery). :D

I heard that the c-index doesn't always update right away. There are certain times that it updates, so it could say its really high, then overnight drop. Thats because it recounted the c-index. Another thing, I noticed on your Western Plains images that the view/download ratio isn't that high. That, if I'm not mistaken, is apart of your c-index average. Probably because it was a top image, a lot of people looked at it, then some didn't download it causing the c-index to drop some.

I'm pretty sure now that whenever the c-index syas 100, it's gotta be a bug. TO get 100/100, every single person who voted would have to give it 10. If even one person who looked at it gave it a 9, the c-index would drop to 99/100. The odds of having everyone vote 10 is almost non existant I think. And the fact that yours dropped to 46 overnight sort of proves it: you need a minimum number of votes before a c-index will even show up (say 5, although it may be more than that). Here we're saying that all 5 voted 10/10. In order to drop to 46, you would need at least 6 people to vote about 1/10. Not very likely. I would say that the 100/100 phenomenen is caused by the same thing that makes it say 0/100, but it happens less often. But this is based on logic, not any knowledge of internetty stuff :-)

well i i didi wonder. but then i didnt totally dismiss the 100 because ive got a small constant group of supporters on caedes ( actually i'd think you all know who your are... its like some sort of 'Inner Caedes Cadre', all the highend users and addicts ).. and i assumed that they were more likely to be voting on my images.. and once or twice i might have got a 10 off of them ;)..but at the time i fisrt spotted the 100.. it was at 10 votes... so do i have ten regular voters who would all give a 10 vote for that image??.. well who knows... but it certainly is a strange event... momentary caedes madness....... actually do you think it would be possiible to get a more detail break down on the voting?.. anomosity should be upheld... but it would be interesting to get an idea about what sort of ranges the votes where in.. or maybe thats just me being a statistic freak... ive actually done full blown art projects based on statistics and questionaires for my university art degree.... im also sad/glad to hear its happened to you too mary :D :(

Sorry, but I don't save the actuall votes for each image. I only store the average or the votes and the number of votes. When someone votes i just caculate the new average like this: navg=(avg*nvotes + newvote)/(nvotes + 1). It's much easier on the database that way because I don't have to store as much information. Also, in order to get 100:100 you'd have to have all 10 votes and a download to view ratio of 1. The c-index is updated once per day.
