Admit it… you were into it then, it was the hottest thing ever. Now… it's that cheesy thing you make fun of. Whether it was a band, a tv show, a movie or a toy, it holds a special place in your heart and your memories. What are some of yours?
I'll start: MacGyver! Not only was Richard Dean hot, he could always find the tools on hand to get himself out of any situation. Especially if it was a pot of glue, 2 rubber bands and a paperclip he could make into an electro-magnetic key to get that bank vault door open before the bomb went off! 8•P
Oh Beta Max fer sure! I almost fell for that one....the VCR format that was going to be it. At the last minute I bought a VHS...actually did something right...I was so proud.
I thought my Atari 2600 was the coolest thing ever when I first got it. I had Phoenix, Asteroids, Dig Dug, Centipede, Ka-Boom!, all the hottest games! LOL! Now I look back at those things and wonder how I ever recognized anything with those chunky, blocky graphics!..=P Compared to modern pc games and X-Box games they just look so ridiculous!..=P
Oh please ! You guys are such pikers .......We're going to step into The Way Back Machine & go waaaaaayyy back ...........back to my 7th grade. I thought I was too hot for words in my Nehru Style dress made of some ungodly silvery shiny material that I had to wear the first day of school. I had a boyfriend by the end of the day too. Then let's not forget high school when I used to paint eyelashes under my lower lashes using liquid eye-liner a la Goldie Hawn on Laugh-In ........Cat once jokingly called me Hippie Woman on another thread .....I was as much as I could ...LOL.
I still have my Atari 2600... lol.. and it still works.. lol.. god i remember in the 70's buying a jumpsuit that was blue satin.. YUK! what was I thinking... *shudders at the thought of it... LOL and I had a family of sea monkeys for awhile.. lol
Hey! I can remember thinking my apricot colored leisure suit was the bomb back in the day! Oh God! LOL! Then again,I had a pair of purple plaid pants with bell bottoms and big cuffs. But what the hey! At least they looked good with my brown saddle shoes with the 3 inch heels! Wait a minute...no they didn't. What the hell was I thinkin'?..=P
Yeah Jac! Well, I also had a perm back then, a fro! Yhecoolest thingaboutthat was the girls used to like to run their fingers through it..=P
Ya know what else I thought was really cool? My cb radio I had in my car, breaker breaker! What's your 20? Ya seen any smokies out there? What's your handle? Mine was the Silver Crusader because of my silver '76 Nova SS. God, I hate cb's now! They were so staticky and noisy. Thank god for cell phones!..=D
Nooooooo !!!!! Larry, noooooo !!!! I hated CB radios! My husband had one & one of his friends was soooo into that junk he dragged Gary & I to see that stupid trucker movie White Line Fever ......which I NEVER forgot because the management painted road lines in the lobbey leading to the theater, just in case we weren't sure about the movie !
LOL! I saw that movie! What a stinker! Hey, here's one for ya! Remember those hot air corn poppers? Ihad one, it sounded like a high power vacuum cleaner. It had a butter melting chamber on the top, but even with butter it tasted like styrofoam and was cold 5 minutes after you made it. I think I used mine about 6 times before realizing it sucked!..=P
Ok, due to severe laziness I did not read every entry, so forgive me if I make a repeat...
*those shirts that would change colors when you touched them
*MacGuyver. the A-Team, Knight Rider, and Magnum P.I. (tv shows were WAY better in the 80's)
*Pong on the 2600 (Atari)
*BetaMax
*MonChiChi's
*Duran Duran (still and forever a Duranie)
*Where's the Beef commercials
*Intellivision, CollicoVision (spelling?)
*3-way calling and call waiting (more friends to chat with about boys!)
*bleached bangs, cuffed pants, plastic bangle bracelets
*John Hughes films
Yes I was a product of the 80's...and my husband says I am still stuck in the 80's...I have a crapload of 80's new wave music, I drop everything if I know that Weird Science or Pretty in Pink, etc will be on cable...and those I love the 80's on VH-1...I could easily do one f those shows!
Have you checked out the Atari emulators on the web?
And were those Hypercolor shirts not the worst, stupidest trend ever?!? I am hapy to say I never owned one... great look when you were sweating under the armpits, those things...
Sorry for the extra Posting... Bored and tired you know... But someone mentioned Duran Duran, which reminded me of a movie that was most deffinitely Oscar material....
OMG.....we used to watch Airwolf, BattleStar Galactica & The Hulk .....I hated Knight Rider, thought it was stupid ......
That's okay, I don't remember the title of the show , I'm having a bad memory day, but I know darn well you guys watched it .....that one with the Dinosaur puppets ....where the baby dinosaur always screamed " The Mama ! "
actually… I didn't… I was too cool for school when it was out. I did however, have this much younger sister… and her friend… who ran around yelling "KNOCK DA MAMA!" I also seem to remember some headbutting going on… like their heads into Mama's legs. As you might imagine, both Mamas were less than thrilled with this.

I remember when the AMC Gremlin came out. I thought that was the coolest looking little car. LOL, chopped off rear end and all. Man, I'm glad I didn't buy one of those ugly things!
Please forgive me: I want to thank everyone who views and comments my images, I try but it is hard to write individual thank you at times. Please know you are appreciated!
Waitress: ...or Lobster Thermidor a Crevette with a mornay sauce served in a Provencale manner with shallots and aubergines garnished with truffle pate, brandy and with a fried egg on top and spam.
Wife: Have you got anything without spam?
Waitress: Well, there's spam egg sausage and spam, that's not got much spam in it.
Wife: I don't want ANY spam!
Man: Why can't she have egg bacon spam and sausage?
Wife: THAT'S got spam in it!
Man: Hasn't got as much spam in it as spam egg sausage and spam, has it?
Vikings: Spam spam spam spam... (Crescendo through next few lines...)

I had one of those Hypercolor shirts. It would really change colors...usually yellow 'round the pits. ; )
Did anyone else "tight roll" their pants in, say, '89-'91? Not that I did, I'm just asking.

How about those 'bag' car phones, the ones that were huge, ugly and awkward....they were the precursor to today's cell phones.....
Dippity-do & brush rollers with those pink plastic stick pins so we could make ourselves look pretty...OMG..how torturous they were. They hurt really bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The all metal curling iron that you laid in the flame of the gas stove to heat before you burned........I mean curled your hair (when not using the brush rollers)......dear me!
The pink & blue & sometimes purple plastic curlers with their own half roller to hold them on? The kink they left in your hair lasted forever!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The hooded portable hair dryer that looked like an overnight bag? I used to spend hours drying my dippity do under one of those things....:))
The test pattern that came on the TV after the playing of the National Anthem...well, there wasn't anything else on the screen & we didn't have to go to bed on the weekends...
Those were the days my friends, I thought they would never end....................:~) lolol
I remember my family's first mobile phone...I seem to remember it having a rotary dial. The ultimate cheese was making a nonsensical, useless phone call just so you could show off your mobile phone. It was technically "mobile" because you could lift it and move it...if you had a strong friend, of course. ; )
-Rob
Too funny Mimi.....I used Dippity-do too ! And those brush rollers....but I hated how they felt so I took the brush part out .....In high school I had really long hair, & it's really thick & heavy.....so I also used to set my hair on Orange Juice cans ....ever do that ? Or iron your hair for that perfect straight look ?

Speaking of which... wasn't it Ronco that had the hair cutting doohickie that attached to your vacume cleaner? You know, for the "perfect" cut, every time?
