Today I uploaded a capture and the Caedes version dispays darker - ie the colour is dull - I deleted the original and tried again - same again!!! why is this???

It is likely a color profile issue. I had the same problem with my 1st image that I posted. See difference from here to here

Convert the color profile of your image to sRGB before you save it for uploading and that should take care of the problem.

well .. when you upload an image, the site (possibly) puts your original in storage and creates all requested sizes from it using a resize script algorithm ... it should be obvious that the site is doing this on the smaller sizes .. but I am just now coming to terms with it doing that on the fullsize, original upload as well

you can test this by downloading a couple of your images at fullsize and comparing the ByteSize to your original on the harddrive

this is, of course, just speculation on my part .. as it doesn't directly address the darkness issue .. but that could be a side effect
