The Fusion...Advertising and Random Collabs are my favorite ideas so far...maybe a mix of all 3 possibly? A Fusion of two images between two random collaboraters making an Advertisement?
Just visited the past contest galleries, and all galleries (except the Misc. and Site Design)have images styled for the desktop. Also, it's a lot easier to judge desktop images than "artsy" ones, from my perspective.
I posted a need for photgrapher very recently......it is for finding someone to do a collaboration with using words and photos......so....since it appears many like the idea of random collaboration, whaddaya say? ( I know, I know, I'm being selfish as it suits my present needs........and your point is ?LOL)
How about elements for a theme? It just occurred to me that we could have submissions of earth, wind, fire and water. It would be something everyone would be able to contribute to, even fractal makers. Just a thought..=)
I like the dream idea. I also like the elements idea. Both would be challenging. I know, how about Elements in Dreams? Or Elements of Dreams for a theme? Sort of combine the two.
I think we should do a contest to see how many different ways we can mangle ....oops I meant manip....yeah, that's it ! ....manipulate an image of Curly .....
Phew this post is looooooong and in the end I couldn't read it all buuuut has anyone suggested a 'self-portrait contest' - maybe something with humour or not! maybe something odd added to the capture?. For me it would also be cool to get some faces to all the names of our caedes community. .
Yeah but unless half the members have faces like fractals then (they may need urgent medical attention) it wouldn’t be possible to include availability to entry for the whole of the community...
Hmmmm is it actualy half fractal membership? is this a known stat? and maybe fractals artist could still include a self portrait within their work? I would be suprised to find if most did not have access to a digital camera, and probably all will be working with a photo manip software. . . and of course not everybody would have the time or inclination to enter a caedes contest.
I would like to see a contest called "There's no place like home" with images of things that make us all feel at home. No one has to go anywhere and everyone has something that makes them feel at home.

Anything that excites me for any reason, I will photograph; not searching for unusual subject matter, but making the commonplace unusual.

geometric forms, which can include fractals & similar forms of expression in nature, they can be found anywhere, & can be constructed or generated......???? altho truth be told thats a bit too straight foreward for me.
i take it back.....i'd like something with a wee bit more thought behind it...as defined by dictionary.com
paradox
1.A seemingly contradictory statement that may nonetheless be true: the paradox that standing is more tiring than walking.
2.One exhibiting inexplicable or contradictory aspects: “The silence of midnight, to speak truly, though apparently a paradox, rung in my ears” (Mary Shelley).
3.An assertion that is essentially self-contradictory, though based on a valid deduction from acceptable premises.
4.A statement contrary to received opinion.
An even better idea !...I love to contradict myself, hehe, and to come up with something visual to substantiate it would be fun, challenging, and thought-provoking...whaddya' say everybody...let's do it !.:Pat.
Since all photography is essentially playing with light (its presense and absence), I suggest that be the topic......LIGHTPLAY-whatever people take "play " to mean, that would be a matter of choice. Some of the world's greatest images are an absence of light....would be intriguing to see postings purporting to be usage of the least amount of light.
Hmmmmm.well...let's amend it to LIGHTPLAY.....can be achieved with or without camera as the goal is to manipulate a subject with or without much light----be it a flower, a spider, a building, or a fractal
That's not too bad, but it's a little broad. I mean, it's possible to manipulate the light on just about any image using any image editing program in a matter of seconds. It would take like 5 secs to make almost any image qualify for the creepy and dark Haunted House. =)
I meant that it's possible to take a picture of anything or any fractal or 3D render, and play with the light, either darkening or brightening it on an image editing program in a few seconds.
I am not speaking of simply using a program to manipulate light: I AM speaking of the very essence of an image-however it is created---presence and absence of light. Whether it takes one, thirteen or five hundred seconds is irrelevant. How long, for example does it take to press the scan the environment , size up the image and press the shutter? In the case of a program such as Apophysis, etc. it would be very difficult to create an image in a short period of time. For your information, a very famous scene of the Flatiron Building in New York City was done in a "snap" according to its author.....My idea for a topic is to pay respect to the most fundamental element of an image . Its use is the most perplexing aspect of production and the result depends, iltimately, on its maker.
hmmmm.....thats sounds pretty good I agree with Philippe. The use of light is functional to any construction of an image, be it photographic or cg.but to use it wisely to ones advantage is another aspect. for those having less experience like the trigger happy photographers like me. it would be a very good incentive to learn about that aspect. & perhaps put more thought into taking a pic or generating an image. like the days or film noir, let the shadows dictate the construct.
MONKEYPUZZLE!!MERCII!!!!! this is exactly what I was intending.....many of us forget how an image is created and this exercize/Topic forces us to construct one/to use what is available carefully vs. just make one up.....thanks for your support.....P..
GOOD! I am glad to hear I got my message across....you know, it is easy to get wrapped up in all kinds of fancy notions and try to create this and that.BUT if not in command of use of light/shadow...success is elusive,,,,,,ppfftttt! LOL
lol, my former French teacher once gave in to some students and they were allowed to put up a poster "La Liste de Vocabulaire Interessant" with French swear words (no translations!) - I think THAT word m*rd* was one of them.. =p
Anyway, geometric forms sounds pretty sweet to me - and it's open to all artists. Fusions, random collabs, or advertisements would be fun also IMO.
Hmmm....Philippe, I wouldn't say that about your lightplay idea - I'd prefer to avoid posting in the first place than post a negative/sarcastic comment on a suggestion. =)
And, I've taken art courses, but can you please give me, like, an example of what do you mean by lightplay? I don't mind it, I find it a fairly good idea, but I just find it a bit too broad.
lightplay in modern summer dreams advertising altered states fusing geometric forms, humour & random words using paradoxical aphorisms on a magazine cover. mwahahahah
sorry, i was bored. having not read some of the other topics. i quite like the idea of dreams, fusion, humour & aphorisms. however dreams is as broad as lightplay. i ppersonally would prefer something a lil bit narrower , not to exclude but to challenge the authors.
I had changed the name Lightplay to The Shadow Knows......it is both a bit "catchier" and connotes the subject/goal better:: formulation of an image through use of light and shadow..My idea is based on the fundamental tenet of photography.I do not understand how that is "too broad"......if one knows how to use light and dark well, Voila!...does not matter what the medium is.
By "too broad", I meant that most images use both light and dark in them. I'm not sure how to put it in words, actually - hard to define. I see what you mean by creating an image from light and shadow, but I'm not very much into it, although I wouldn't mind it.
I have to wonder how one cannot "be into it" .ALL visual images-no matter the forum/technique rely on -in fact, demand-use of shadow. Perhaps another avenue /hobby would suit you better.
Excuse me, but I have taken art courses and know about light/shadow. I'm just not into it, the same way you don't seem to be much into fractals, for example. I didn't say I hated it, I'm okay with your idea.
I think we might be going a little off-topic, by the way. =)
I like the dream idea. It really leaves it open to all artists. It does sound somewhat of a vague topic but it could be refined somewhat. Maybe there could be 2 or 3 catagories the images could contend under. Like nightmares, day dreams, so on a so forth. The sub catagories give a little direction and something for individuals to aim for (just a little less vague) and prizes can be given for best in each category. There can still be a prize for best over all image, but that not being the only aim. I like to see many artists have opportunity to get there stuff out there and be a part of things. This would be a great opportunity, see some of the new ones and shy ones come out. There is a place and time for a wide open contest and also for more particular and skill testing contests. I'm not sure what you are all in the mood for. I love contests so whatever is up for topic I'm sure I'll like it. Cheerio...........................LPF
"Love starts at home: family first then the indivdual then your town. its easy to love people far away, but it is not always easy those right next to us. I do not agree with the big way of doing things. Love needs to start with an individual." -Mother Teresa ( But in my opinion whever there is world crisis it is wise to give.)
Yep, didn't think of that. How about we choose a country/culture and use that as a theme? We could go with like an African, Native American or Oriental theme...
