**Note: .. the above blurb and HELP links come from the WIN page .. MAC-o-philes shouldn't get their dander up if it contains words they're not familiar with .. like .. CRASH
ah the fabled but mercifully rare japanese black screen of death - much more annoying than the more regular but less fatal spinning beach ball of boredom.
I haven't been following the news of VISTA .. I didn't know about the change to a Red Screen of Death .. the Blue, that we have now, is calming .. Red will only lead to increase of blood pressure
worries me to get my Windows News from an Apple guy ... (*googles the term "Hahaha .. he totally fell for it" .. but finds no MAC forum traffic*)
it came after monsieur gates announced that they had eliminated the BSOD from Vista for ever at preview press conference some time back. A few days later a Microsoft engineer revealed it had gone forever because they had changed the colour to red instead. Why would you be surprised that an 'Apple Guy' knew anything about Vista when Microsoft drafted in Apple designers to rework the Vista interface after they got unceremoniously booed on stage the first time they showed their own efforts :-)
ahhh .. see? .. it's windows peeps that think different .. apple would never do the reverse
(*wanders off whistling at justifying his OS*)
I wasn't anticipating much in the way of interface changes, just more of the same (for $90) .. what am I instore for? .. a bit more transparency on windows
yeah thats about it - oh and OSX Tiger Dashboard Widgets 'rebranded' for Windows. oh - and a long wait for various service packs to finish the job off.
Widgets are silly anyway... a bit of eyecandy IMO. Although I did see an app that allows you to use widgets like normal applications... but then they aren't really widgets any more are they...
hey… I use my widgets… it's the 1st time in my life I've actually checked a weather forecast on a regular basis… calendar's kinda useful too… almost like having it next to ya on a wall. 8•P
when I lived in colorado for five years (mid 90's) was my first experience putting up with snow ... my mail box was on the other side of my apartment building and I lived on the end unit, so it was just a short distance .. I stepped out, took a deep breath of morning air and said .. "ahh, this isn't so bad, crisp even" .. went and retrieved my mail and by the time I got back to my door my teeth were chattering so hard I thought I was going to DIE
i tend to use quite a few widgets regularly - the yellow pages, sys stats, dictionary, weather - although that lies/changes on the hour so I dont really trust that one so much. the cocktail recipe maker is good too although the day at work can become a drag if you indulge too much :-)
