Digital images are comprised of three channels of luminosity information describing the three primary colors of light (Red, Green, Blue). In short, three monochromatic images. Using software we can combine and mix those channels to produce exactly the B&W effect we want.

I personally use the Channel Mixer when doing up a B&W. It slices, it dices, it juliennes’. Some restrictions may apply, void where prohibited. My cause bloating, diarrhea and headache, please consult your doctor before trying the Channel Mixer.

Nine times out of ten channel mixer will give you the better end result - using a digital infrared filter will give you the best results for the least effort but this can invariably be replicated with channel mixing.
