The Department of Homeland Security justifies slashing New York's federal anti-terrorism funding 40% by stating that New York has no National Monuments or Icons.

Wow. I guess the Statue of Liberty, the Empire State Building, Wall Street… none of those count. The World Trade Center… oh wait… nm on that one!

Oh… and the Federal Reserve… yeah, there's no way that's a likely target huh?

All this while increasing funding to areas which either really have no national monuments or no buildings over 40 stories to begin w/. Like you know… Louisville Kentucky, Charlotte NC or Omaha Nebraska.

Not that I wanna deny them adequate funds to protect themselves, BUT… Pardon me, as I live in the only city in the U.S. which has twice been the target of successful terrorist attacks in the past 2 decades… anybody have a spare bedroom? I'm not picky!

I think they need to wake up...before something big happens...9/11 should've shown that NY still needs the most, plus the bombing that took place in 93 also...

So you’re telling me that one of the largest ports in the world with one of the world’s most famous monuments does not deserve security. Considering they leveled two large buildings on 9/11, I guess they have to cut cost do to the increase of fuel and the need to drive around in those limos and fly that big jet around for vacations, in the name of politics.

Art is the perception of the creator. Meaning is the perception of the viewer. acceptance is the perception of society.

Allow me to clarify a little…

The slashed budget is due to their new risk assessment formula that was supposed to overcome the pork barrel spending that was allotting funding to areas with little or no risk.

Of course when you enter the data of zero National Monuments or Icons… well… garbage in, garbage out.

Oh… DHS also apparently thinks that Anti-Terrorism unit of the NYPD… a globally recognized player… is doing a bad job… they're down in the bottom of the 15% worst in the country according to DHS. The apparent primary reason for this? They don't like all the overtime pay that's being spent. Nothing about their effectiveness in getting the job done…

P.S. Washington D.C. also had massive cuts to it's funding. These are real brainy people there!

Yes, brainy...hmmm, makes you think doesn't it? Who do we need protection from exactly?

Actually I think this is very clever. They are obviously planning ahead for once ad have decided that under their protection, New York's landmarks won't be around for long anyway.

Well I'm sure this fits in the synonyms thread too, but...
Bush, Congress, Politicians=genuises

Besides, all those BFE places are feeling left out...imagine how terrible life would be if Kentucky, Indiana...that area was bombed...there would be no more White Castle burgers...thaat is definately WAY more important to protect than the dumb Statue of Liberty...I mean really, its just a big statue symbolizing freedom...who needs that

I think they do have a duplicate one in Vegas...So why do we need to protect the REAL one...it's definately not cost-effective...
I think in fact, that they should take even more money away from NY...after all, being bombed twice now...I'm sure New Yorkers know how to handle terrorist activities...no, I think it is a very wise decision to protect the delicios and (imho sacred) White Castle territories...a world without Sliders...well, that's a harsh world to live in.

They now claim that those things were written in as "infrastructure" (yeah right) and that the statue of liberty is on federal land. uh huh. so where's the federal agents guarding it? whoops! you called on the nyc cops for that you say?

double talk double talk PORK BARREL.

Don't get me wrong... I don't wanna live in a police state, and I firmly believe some of what NYC wants to use the money for is goin above and beyond what I wanna live in… but that a fishing village in alaska needs dollars out of that fund. There are other funds to build them a bridge tyvm.
