In light of recent activities on behalf of tipcell in the off-topic forum… may I make a suggestion or 2?…

is it possible to program in a limit to the number of new topics a brand spanking new member may create? like… one a day?

is it then is it also possible to limit the # of threads a brand spanking new member may post on in their first 2 hours? Like… no more than 2 threads? While this may seem slightly unfriendly, I think it's extremely rare for a brand spanking new genuine member to post on even that many in their 1st 2 hours on the site.

*waits for bombardment*

Go ahead… tell me i'm anti-social. I can take it.

edit: when I say post on threads, I refer to discussion board only, not images themselves

Caedes is so much fun! It has little blue buttons, and they even turn green! ...other features include posting images, but who cares about that part. Blue buttons!

Good idea! Sort of something like the script that limits the number of posts every 20 secs. We could like keep a member "new" for a couple weeks or so. I don't know much about programming though.

It's actually quite remarkable that we have gone for so long without one of these twits showing up... I agree that there should probably be a limit for first time posters... maybe after they had posted say, three threads with no problems, the limit could be lifted/lessened.

The spam has been deleted and the spammer's new name will be put on global ignore. If tipcell's (AKA keiresing) spam are from the same static IP, caedes will probably ban the IP.

*raises eyebrow* and if they're not? we can't take steps to prevent it from happening in the 1st place?

You could also consider .. not allowing a first-time poster to place a link or http address .. or .. like they do at DSL-Reports .. quarantine your first several posts pending approval .. then lifting the ban once you've shown that you play nice with others

Cat & Keifer- good suggestions, but that is ultimately up to the Praetor Maximus, I have brought this thread to his attention.

Gee, I don't know how I forgot to put your name up there about the suggestions, (I guess I was too busy fretting over the ingredients of pignoli cookies *shivers*) I corrected it.

I think Cat's suggestions should be dismissed .. since she yakked about her phone purchasing decisions for half a page
