well over here they banned Noddy because him and Big Ears (according to the do-gooders) were gay because the held hands, hung out together and were having a "gay time"... now it was on the news the other day that teachers are not allowed to refere to parents as "mom & dad" as there are so many gay partners (which by the way I have nothing against) and it is offence to some.. Santa is going because of the different religious beliefs... what ever happend to childhood and childhood fantasies and imagination? and do they honestly think that 3-6 yr olds think like that? they are making kids grow up way to fast and not enjoy their innocent little lives... who would have thought a cute little blue cartoon guy can be evil... when now all the cartoons are space orientated, monsters who eat people and good as well as evil get to use laser weapons that blow people apart.. but hey.. guess thats not as bad as fairies, santa, and cartoon people who are happy, laughing, playing and innocent imaginations....

And don't forget that at least over here there was a huge flap a few years back over the level of violence in cartoons such as Bugs Bunny.....Yet today, in Wal-Mart my 14 year old nephew was asked to produce some I.D. because of the level of profanity in some Rap CD he was buying .....so he walked across the street & bought it at K-Mart, no questions asked. The CD wasn't even marked about the profane language either.....
As for holidays & the public schools ? They get to have Winter Holidays in Head Start for instance, anything that's federally funded can't be seen to favor one religion or belief over the other. So the kids can wear their Halloween costumes to school, but no Halloween Parties per se, they have Autumn Festivals. Which sounds to me like they're dancing in Oak Groves , but I guess that's just me.

Yeah, I know, for years everyone said the Three Stooges were too violent. I guess they didn't want kids trying to run saws across each other's heads and whatnot. And let's not forget about Rock 'n Roll! The devil's music, it was supposed to turn us all into drug addicted, crazed monsters or something. Then again, let's not forget that Halloween is an evil, pagan holiday, no doubt created by devil worshippers. Might as well suck all the fun out of that for the kids while we're at it. What's next? Are they going to ban The Munsters and The Addams family from Nickeledeon too? Heaven knows , anything with evil monsters like Herman Munster and Uncle Fester can't be a healthy thing. Then again, let's not forget that anything you eat, breathe or do is going to cause cancer, including sex. Might as well make all of that illegal too while we're at it.

Larry, I can safely reassure you hon. None of that stuff causes cancer. Only white lab mice cause cancer. Everything they experiment on is done to lab mice so that's my theory & I'm sticking to it... *big grin *

it isn’t exactly unusual for cartoon animators to use their medium as a tool for disseminating their own personal agendas or propaganda - the problem begins when you have really foul people like Walt Disney doing it. It's a process that still goes on today although in a far more satirical and obvious nature with cartoons such as South Park, American Dad etc. I wouldn’t have said that the imagery in the Smurfs, particularly the anti semitic stuff, was exactly subtle and doesn’t require anyone to look too deeply at it at all.
