It's 5 mp which is pretty good for a p&s camera -- and it has optical zoom which is a must for me. The one thing that always bothers me about sony media products is the memory stick. They are more expensive and almost exclusively limited to sony products. But if the question is "Is it good for professionals?" . . . most professionals would probably choose a slr camera with more controllable settings.
Go to the store and pick up and try to use a Sony before you get set on it. They all seem to be designed such that you want to put your left hand over the lens when you hold it. It's probably something you can get used to, but a ham-handed person, like me, might have trouble with it.
Anything else I might say would probably be exactly what CrazyIvan just said, so I'll leave it at that. :-)
I own the Sony Cybershot Dsc S-85 digital camera and i am in love with it...it is 4.1 mega pxl..Produces the Crispist and most Vibrant pics... it is Limeted on Zoom tho...runs around $399. US dollars and is very simple to use..
Go thru my pix and See if ya like What it Does..:) I myself am going to get the Sony F717 soon, and the Wide lens ..I suggest u look around alot if buying an Expinsive Professional camera....I have seen them from $700. to $8,000. Happy hunting.
