Well... being WN's brother I can say a little bit about where he's going... I was not paying a whole lot of attention, but I believe he is going to Lourdes, Paris, and Rome. Probably a few other cities, but I can't remember them at the moment. It is a sort of relgious pilgrimage that he is making...
Be assured however... I bought him a 128 MB CF card for the camera right before he left... =) So he had better darn well take some pictures... hehehe =D
Hey all I am only on for a little bit right now. I am having a great trip and have been taking pictures. I am in youth hostel right now in Rome and they have a junker computer. The cities I have visitied so far are Paris, Florence, Assisi, and now I am here at Rome. After I leave here I will go to Lourdes then to Paris again. I have taken some good shots from what I can tell on the camera, but we shall see when I get home and upload them onto the computer. See all later...
First let me clearify something, I'm not brothers with ppigeon, if thats what your thinking, cc_beowulf is my brother
Guilts! Ok this is how the trip was...
It was a great trip, had tons of fun, I got some pictures, still thinking if their good enought to upload ;-). We flew into Paris, and while in Paris (stayed here for 3 days) visited Norte Dame, San Chappell (there are going to be a few misspellings here) this church has the most stainglass windows out of any church, the catacombs of Paris, the Lourve(sorry to art fans, but this was one of the low parts of the trip).
After we left Paris, we went to Florence for a 1/2 day, and went to the main Basilica(forgot the name) and this bridge that is suppose to be really famous because it has a bunch of shops on it. After leaving Florence we got to Assisi, the best town in Europe,or maybe the world for that matter ;-). Assisi is just a beautiful place everyone should go there if you haven't been there yet. While in Assisi we visited the Basilica of St. Francis, and the churches or St. Clairs and St. Rufino, and we visited San Domiano. We stayed in Assisi for about 2 days, and then left for Rome.
Where we stayed at in Rome was a 1 minute walk away from St. Mary Major, and you could see the Colessum from the roof of the hostel, so we were pretty central to everything. While in Rome we visited the Colessum, the old Roman forum, St. Mary Major, St. John Lateran, St. Peters(this Chruch is just like "WOW"), and we also visited a few other churches and attractions. One church I have to mention that was pretty cool was a Church that was run by the Capuchins, it had this area in the Church that was a crypt area. In these cyrpts they had the skeletons of dead Capuchins set up to show dead and the afterlife, to show that it is coming soon. I was strange, but I liked it.
After we left Rome we were going to go to Lourdes, but at the border of France the train had to stop because of the strikes, but we were able to find a train to Nice. Nice was a beautiful town, and verrrry relaxing =). We stayed there for a day because the next train to Lourdes was the next day. Because we had the day at Nice, we only spent 1 day at Lourdes, it was nice there, but not as nice as I thought it might be. After we stayed at Lourdes, we went back to Paris. Because our flight was going to beleaving the next morning we had a day to do something, so we went to Chartes and visited the Cathedral there, that was nice. Then the next we flew back home ;-).
Overall it was a great trip, and I had tons of fun. If you can visit Europe I would highly recommend it, for all you Americans. =)
Ok, I uploaded some pictures from the trip: "Twilight", "Sunset on the Pyrenees", and "Sun Over Assisi" for all you that wanted to see some pictures from the trip =)
Hey! I'm back with a lot of pics of Namib desert and Etosha park. Coming soon...
Fantastic journey with sand, sun, animals and the incredible MilkyWay in the night (no clouds, no lights, no pollution, no airplanes...)
Message for my 'brother' Winternight:
Very good report on your journey in Europe. Assise is a very beautiful city, but you should visit Venice, Prague, Dubrovnik, Siena, Budapest,... All these cities are marvelous.
I think that a lot of Americans fear to come in Europe. They must not hesitate, there are a lot of beautiful things to see and incredible old monuments (castles, churches, museums, old cities...) The majority of Europeans chose english as second language and...the cooking is very good, especially in the Latin countries.
