Somehow I don't think "Mad Max at the OceanDome" would have been as popular a movie. ;) This reminds me of the Truman Show... artificial landscape that feels strangely real. I think they just opened a new hotel in Lake George (upstate NY) that has an indoor water park that can be used year round. Certainly not on the scale of this monolith... but big.

what really amazes me… if you look @ some of the scenic shots… look how close to the ocean that thing is! what's wrong the good old Beach & Boardwalk setup? Maybe I'm close-minded or staid, or w/e. But this defeats the whole beach experience for me.
Renting a swimsuit... LMAO what next.... think I prefer the good old fashioned way you know sit on the real beach, go into real (cold) water, get stung by real jellyfish, get called out of the water cos of sharks, get dumped by real waves... lol
It's interesting and all, I'll give it that. And yes, at certain times of the year, I could see using that type of facility. Obviously somebody has that kind of extra cash, or a size complex, to put that bad boy into buisness. What really got me wondering was the level of negativity and thinly veiled hate that had been posted...
"Maybe another nuke is in order."
"Don’t worry, soon I will turn their fake ocean into blood."
Thankfully there are also even headed people posting to kind of put them in their place. So, I don't think it is this structure that is scary about the site... it's the level of hate that still exists today in our, so-called, modern world...
Yeah, I was surprised to see alot of that hate, but decided to toss out all those opinions and go w/me own.
Frankly, I'm all for the idea that when it's cold out, unless you're going to travel to a different climate, you stay indoors and curl up w/books and hot chocolate, or you go out and go ice skating or sledding or other winter type activities.
A large part of the whole beach experience for me is about the weather and the season, and I wouldn't get that in an artificial environment like that. I could maybe understand if this were created in some region where it was generally always cold out, or there were no coastal areas, but look… it's RIGHT THERE NEXT TO A SHORELINE! Makes a no sense to me.
(p.s. did you read robo's comments about what it's really like there?)
Oh, I agree on that part.... no worries with that... but, what is that wall thing built along the beach? Perhaps the beach isn't all that accessable or safe?
