Wow! That dancing baby animation, the first time i saw that was about 5 years ago on a screen saver!...and then i dug it up again. And now i see it again! It never dies. -.- Nobody would appear on caedes. =P Lol, and 99 of the ppl would knoww what the golden arches are.
I could wile away the hours
Conferrin' with the flowers
Consultin' with the rain
And my head I'd be scratchin'
While my thoughts were busy hatchin'
If I only had a brain
yes, it did sink in... it sank in the last time i read somethin like this... and that was a few years back. Those of us who do have "the good stuff" take advantage of the fact even though we're in the lowest percentage of the world's population...
Ah yes, didnt read the bottom part. I stopped at the animated baby. Umm, yes, now I got the message....which is why we are all on our computers right now most likely looking at images, playing a game, writting messages to others, checking their mail, eating potatoe chips (ok, im not eating potatoe chips)..you know. =P Yup, got the message, "You can do something," but as you can see, we arnt trying really hard. ...did i just say that, and did that make sense?
Poverty in North America exists too. But here we assume everyone should be able to live the "New World" dream. There are many countries in the world where low living conitiditions are rampant. In some nations the difference is that all people live at the same standard, all poor together. There is no differentiating, so the deppression of have not, is less. They appreciate what they have and often have close knit communities where thay depend on one another without shame. I have been to such places and I leave feeling astounded at their peace and when I return home I feel very lonely, going back to the Individualistic North American life.
The most depressing poverty to me is not in those who can't read or write, or without education, but more where people are left to feel shame at having so much less than their neighboor who won't share and scorns them for not having their own. Status and classes outline poverty on a spiritual level that leaves people without joy. You can have very little in way of money, sustinance, and possesions and still be happy as a bag of hammers. But when we define people by what they have/have not and what they do for a living (or lack of), we ostrisize them. And by the same standard that we judge other people we judge ourselves, and can box ourselves into loneliness. By not eating with the poor, or sharing with the less fortunate we cut off our own humanity. We are those same people, but with a roof over our heads. Take that roof away, and what do you have left? Perhaps a nieghboor who says sorry Bro, things will turn around for you, and he keeps watering his lawn.
It is always a shame that people have AIDS, malnutrition, no food, no clean water. We should always assist how ever we can (not everyone is able to and that's okay). But here in North America (I mean US and Canada) we have a different poverty. We have Poverty of spirit (we also have very poor places that do lack basic needs being filled). From my experience having money does not always make you rich, infact it can make you very poor. I don't speak for the whole world by any means. But by working in Canada with my husband in HIV hospices, foster care and caring for people with dissabilities you really see how the outcast is more poor because of his ingerity being robbed than about his/her actual situation. Pain can be bared but shame is a killer.
There are so many more poverty issues and angles on which to view them from what I've written above. I don't see my opinion as the be all end all of the subject, Thisis just something I have witnessed on a personal level so I a little feel closer to it. I do not intend to play down the other harsh realities people live with everyday, this is just the one of the sadnesses our world suffers with.
Wow, now that we are all depressed lets go do something crazy, steal a car, eat some ice cream, crash our bicycles, yell at people then drive away (on your bicycle before you crash it), buy the American Idol tour CD (carry it on your person when you plan to crash your bicycle).
100 people can make us see the big picture, multiply that 100 many times and those 100 are the entire world...the big picture. Seems the U.S. are the spoiled brats of the world. Very enlightning indeed.

Well, I guess i coulda said: stop eating at McD's woulda...well...not do much (but yes it would do something. However if every1 has the attitude that only "I" wont make a difference, then nobody will stop eating it...). If the whole country did it, then there would be a difference. If you really wanted to help, the only thing you really could do is give in your own personal time overseas. Otherwise you could donate large sums of money to charities, etc (however the problem with this is many of them take more than half the cash you give, and its going..most likely..to the people who work). You could get a job, join the peace corp, UNICEF, save the children, etc. ..and by the way, im a hypocrite, all talk, no action.
But i figured a blank stare woulda worked just as well. =D
i just watched 'supersize me' a few weeks ago, and once i got past the initial knee-jerk reaction to the disgusting food, i realized the culture of excess is pushed on us harder in very few places than the 'golden arches'...whether you disagree or agree with the film's message, i think everyone should see it, if nothing else, for the facts and data it uncovers....

Don't know about Mary Poppins...was never into that stuff. Strong or brave men never fake it nor do they believe they are. You convince others by your actions not what you tell them. A man never knows how strong or brave he is until tested....I guess we will all have our day.

Ok... so I'm not very good at math, but when I total the breakdown at the very top of the page, I'm only getting 99 -- not 100. It says their stats are based on "precisely 100" in a village. So something is a askew! I call SHENANIGANS!!!
PS - This was a real eye opener, and yes, I did get the message. Thanks for sharing the link. Tell me if I added this incorrectly.
