Lake Front Sunrise And Reflections - The Second Posting by tigger3
Another shot taken just a little bit after this one .

Not as intense but I thought it was still beautiful, wanted to share it with you.

I'll probably have a few more to share later from this morning.

I had it all to myself. :)

I hope you will send good karma my way as my best friend who I do my girl trips with is in the hospital with some different issues with her heart, and now my mom is in another hospital with issues of her own. Thank goodness for life line. I will try to stay on top of my commenting, but just wanted to let you know what was happening on this end, just in case you don't hear from me as much.

Thank you my friends for the support on my images and your friendship.

I sat in my car for four hours waiting for the rain to quit long enough for me to get some images with raindrops on tulips at the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival this year. I like the colors and the strong diagonal composition. The raindrops really add to the mood.

golden hills... by fogz
......accentuated with a touch of HDR! ...all the elements were there to work on - the sun on the hills and the dramatic sky! How I would love to stand on top of that hill - next time I visit Ullswater I will make a point of climbing a hill - the lake is surrounded by the most beautiful landscape - what other invitation do you need. :)

Yesterday I climbed the hill from this post and made lots of pictures. Here's one I took just before dawn from about half way up the hill.

By the way the hill is called Lisca and it's exactly 948m tall. It's located in eastern Slovenia near a town called Sevnica, which is where I live. It's a good two and half hour walk from the town to the top. Perfect for short photo trips. :)

Oh What a Beautiful Morning ! by muggsy
A Junco enjoying the bright new Adirondack morning.

Hadn't planned on posting this at this time but felt it necessary for a certain Caedes member who shall remain nameless. (Hint: Think Louisiana, Bayou and ... Shotgun) Upon viewing my previous post "Rainy Days & Mondays" the member commented Muggsy needed to "lighten up". I do appreciate the concern but it was needless. I am in good spirits for an old cuss. * Closes computer, grabs top hat and cane and tapdances out front door looking for Ginger * :)

The Angle 6. by Mythmaker
Number 6 in my mini photo essay on angles/diagonals. If you eye follows the flow of the water, in particular the whitewater, it follows an angled line from top right corner down thru the image. You might not consider the lines of whitewater to be "a line" but they have the same visual affect in terms of the overall image. In the field, half a step to left or right, half a foot forward or back, half a foot of crouch or a rock to elevate you, can make a massive difference to the image you capture. Many of us keen amateurs forget that how our eye sees a scene is different to the camera. Our eye roams over a scene, shifting different areas into and out of focus, we tend not to notice that the composite image in our mind's eye is just that, a composite. Then we point our camera, snap it, get it home and can't work out why the impact we felt in the field is not in the image. The chances are good that in the field our eye naturally followed the best lines and angles, tended to settle there, got an emotional kick from the goodness of those elements, but it was all unconscious. We noticed the "wow" but not the "how". From time to time we get lucky and the shot we get home DOES capture the wow elements. Those are our learning moments, really LOOK at the shots that others see the WOW in, what are the elements present? I'm not suggesting anyone will get a wow moment from this shot. :) I'm just feeling a bit pontificatory today. :) I'll shutup now.

Enjoy.

Sunset Through the Mist by d_spin_9
There is a very funny story attached to the top of this waterfall, where the flood we were paddling in had washed out the normal portage-start, so we were having trouble stopping at the shear-grassy shore. a small (1') ledge ahead made my dad shout "get down we're going over", which my mom interpereted as: "We're all going to die" thinking about the waterfall roaring ahead. so she litterally jumped out of the canoe in order to drag the canoe over to shore...she ended up being the one getting helped onto shore...many a good belly laugh was had ;)

Grass....and a bird by Paul_Gerritsen
This is a what you call a lucky shot! I was walking and saw this birdy fall down from the sky and plunge into the grass on top of an acient wall. I walked up to the spot where it landed and used my pocket camera to shoot some photos with my arm extended to reach over the wall. I never saw what I shot until the bird had taken of again. The bird never saw me coming until that camera suddenly appeared very close in the grass. And to my surprise there was one lucky shot!

and in sunshine the waters are sleeping... by fogz
......and did I stand and stare! - this view will stay in my memory for a long time! Our small tour group arrived at Balmaha on the banks of Loch Lomond and we walked around part of the Loch then up a steep climb to see this view across Loch Lomond. We sat on top of the hill and just looked - our guide said we were very lucky - the weather was beautiful and the reflections across the Loch were stunning. The title is another line from the song Bonnie Bonnie Banks of Loch Lomond - and if you click on the link you will hear the song and see some of the wonderful views over the Loch. There is also another version of the story of the song, but I have to say I like the story told by our guide the best. :)

Cars can be driven across the top of Aviemore Dam. As I never feel comfortable up there it was a quick nip out and a few quick clicks as I wanted to capture the different hues in parts of the water. I have already posted two individual pictures and decided to attempt a stitch-up to show you the whole thing. I made two attempts, one using Canon PhotoStitch and this one using the demo version of Autostitch which looked the best. If you have not tried Autostitch it is well worth a look at.

Veere (46), Standing Tall by corngrowth
The 'Grote Kerk' (Tall Church) of Veere, Zeeland, The Netherlands, was captured by me two days ago. The second name for this church is 'Onze Lieve Vrouwekerk' ('Our Lady Church'). The construction of church and tower started about 1348 and was stopped in 1521. The tower was never fully completed as it was intended to be three times as tall as it is now. The dome on its top was added after a fire in 1686. The maintenance of this tall church (tall in respect to the number of Veere's inhabitants) took too much toll of the very little town. Therefore parts of the building were given new uses in order to collect money. In 1975 a restoration was done which was aimed at preservation, not reconstruction.

Hope you'll like this image. Thank you in advance for your comment.

Like to use this opportunity as well to say 'thanks' to my friends who have voted on my 'Synchronized' image, so achieving a 3rd place in the 'symmetry-contest'. Thanks too to my friends for their congratulations by sending me a PM or by giving a recently comment on this post. Highly appreciated!

The Firmament High by DeathScytheG
This was originally just a photo of a sunset like the one here but I adjusted it a bit. By accident, I put a black layer on top as an overlay and was immediately stunned by the results. It brought out the colors of the sunset like nothing else. Then I had an idea of putting stars into the sky and my masterpiece was born. This one MUST be seen at high resolution for the full effect of the individual stars. Once it gets below 1024x768 pixels, the stars lose the individuality and clarity.
I'd like to dedicate this image to my girlfriend Yvette. The majesty of the twilight in this image pales in comparison to my feelings for her.

the Acropolis in... Edinburgh? by fogz
....by some quirk of the imagination, I thought I was in Athens for a moment! ;) ...the Acropolis, also known as the National Monument is situated on top of Calton Hill in the centre of Edinburgh city - sometimes referred to as 'Athens of the North'. I walked up the hill on Tuesday, it was my birthday by the way, and I was just happy because of where I was and the sun was shining too and what a reward when I got to the top - the views around the city were amazing! The monument, which was built in 1822, was designed as a replica of the facade of the Parthenon in Athens a year after Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo, and was in commemoration of the soldiers who lost their lives in the Napoleonic wars.

Distractions #3 by muggsy
Continuing from Distractions #2, after a short time I peeked over the porch rail and was pleasantly surprised to see the flowers I had my eye on were abandoned ... no butterflies ... no bees. Seemed odd. Once again I looked through the viewfinder ... the flowers "jiggled". Then there was an unmistakeable "tremor" from within the bush. You haven't lived until you've had your eye glued to a viewfinder close up to a subject and ... a Praying Mantis pokes it's head and jack-knife front legs out in your direction. This BIG BOY (about 5 inches) climbed on top of the flowers and sat there. Gave me a look that indicated he wasn't too thrilled with my spooking his food supply. That was enough for old Muggsy ... I can take a hint. I snapped off a couple of shots and put the lens cap on my camera. Flower pics would have to wait till Springtime.

The entire incident reminded me of a "signature" that Gregg (Egggray) once used, quoting Forrest Gump. I'll paraphrase ... "Nature photography is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you're gonna get."

Clear Creek Cascades Surprise by Mythmaker
You come down to this little creek from the road at a point above that one step fall and all you see is a small amount of water flowing in a fairly straight line at the bottom of the rock slope, not much going on. But a bit of clambering downstream reveals this scene. My sister and I (Lovesred)were in constant danger of injury at this spot, wet smooth rocks and not a flat surface in sight. I spent a lot of time scooting around on my bum. When I got this shot home it was weird, the water surface of the pool below the falls was level but the edge of the pool above the falls, where the water is clearly coming over evenly across the whole lip, was not level, it messed with my head. So I used the perspective tool to level the edge of the top pool without changing the bottom of the image. I lost a good twenty percent of the right edge of the shot in that process but now the image doesn't mess with my head. :)

Enjoy.

Mikel.

Morpho butterfly by Paul_Gerritsen
This is a Morpho butterfly. The top side of it's wings is stunningly blue. Morpho butterflies are forest dwellers, but will venture into sunny clearings to warm themselves. Males are territorial and will chase any rivals. The peoples along the Rio Negro in Brazil once exploited the territorial habits of the Blue Morpho (M. menelaus) by luring them into clearings with bright blue decoys. The collected butterfly wings were used as embellishment for ceremonial masks. Ps. you can lure them indeed by wearing blue clothing, I have tried this myself and my pullover was attracting Morphos. Morpho butterflies feed on the juices of fermenting fruit with which they may also be lured. The inebriated butterflies wobble in flight and are easy to catch. Morphos will also feed on the bodily fluids of dead animals and on fungi. Therefore, Morpho butterflies may be important in dispersing fungal spores. The entire life cycle of the Morpho butterfly, from egg to death, is approximately 137 days. The adults live for about a month. They have few predators as the adults are poisonous due to the feeding caterpillar sequestering poisonous compounds. The hairy brown caterpillars feed on a variety of leguminous plants. In some species the caterpillars are cannibalistic. If disturbed, some Morpho caterpillars will secrete a fluid smelling of rancid butter. The tufts of hair decorating the caterpillars have been recorded to irritate human skin.

Incredibly Difficult to Get to Falls by dmk
Please try your best to enjoy this, because it is the 1st and last time i will ever go to these falls again. This waterfall is visible from the main highway about an hour from my home town. You can just see the top section from the highway. Anyway, ive been wanting to check it out for some time now. I stopped on the side of the highway, and made my way over the fence. What seemed to look like a 5 min walk to the falls turned out to be a 1h 45 min "adventure", more like a nightmare! Bushes always look smaller from far away, lol! I battled my way through thistles and thorn bushes cutting my legs and arms to shreds!(Exaggeration). It was so bad i decided to walk back in the river! Got back to the car stinging from the scratches and soaking wet! So thats the story behind this pic. I honestly think im the only person who has ever been right to the waterfall! If anyone is out there and you have been here, then you are CRAZY! ;)

This guy was on top of a feeder. There is a storage shed next to feeder station with a porch. A lot of people like me get on this prch to take pictures of the birds. On this shot I leaned way over the railing on porch to get closer to this fellow. It worked, but by his eye you can see he was leary of me. This shot was taken with 70-300 zoom lens set at 300mm. This is a rework of a photo I submitted a few weeks back. Great Blue at Sunrise It was suggested that I make a few changes to enhance the photo. I cropped it tighter around the island, I lightened the two areas top right and left and completely readjusted the color throughout. My only problem with this one is by trying to keep the same aspects I've lost part of the reflection of the heron. If you get a chance please check out the original. The view that day was spectacular. You can literally see half of Slovenia from there as well as large chunks of Croatia.

The way in by nigelmoore
More from the Lake District. We'd walked along the top of the fells on the left and then down into the valley. At the bottom is a stream called the Troutbeck - beck means stream apparently.

Fire in the Tree-Tops by photoimagery
This fall shot was taken in the Cascade Mountains in Washington State, this last fall. The "Larch" trees are of the pine family but they turn yellow and loose their needles until the next spring.

Country Road by dwdharvey
Out on a walk I came across these trees on this little back road and thought it would be a nice desk top for the fall season. Hope you guys like it.

Snowy Night by d_spin_9
very nice property there on the other side of the river ;) you can see a plane flying by in the top-right. in the snow at the bottom you can see the shadow from the moon just starting to rise over the tall cliff just out of the left side of the picture

Wind Tower 360 by d_spin_9
quite a view from the top!, here is a 360 degree view from the top of the wind tower which is just south of canmore and right on the spray lakes (which you can see in the picture) this picture is actually 370 degrees or so, as you can see the same ridge twice on the right and left. unfortunately all the clouds from the day (which i'll post an image of soon) had drained from the valley by the time we made the summit, they were quite spectacular from the pass.

Four Stones by J_E_F
On top of the Clent Hills is a folly of Four Stones , that have no more significance than the local lordship decided that he wanted something neolithic to look at on his estate. Good enough reason for him, good enough reason for me.

Gerbera Margarita by ccmerino
Red Spider Gerbera The gerbera daisy, known as the "Transvaal Daisy", originated in South Africa. Named after German naturalist Traugott Gerber, a German botanist and naturalist, who traveled extensively in Russia. The Gerbera one of the world's top ten most popular flowers. Tenancingo is one of the most important producers of roses and all types of flowers, such as gerbera, MARGARITA, SPIDER chrysanthemum, astromerias, lirios, and almost all the varieties of flowers that you can imagine. The Mexico State is one of the most important states for floriculture; Tenancingo deserves special mention. The great variety of flowers that the floricultors produce in this town is a subject of national pride. The meanings of gerbera daisies stem from those attributed to the general daisy family. These meanings include innocence and purity, and daisies are also a classic symbol of beauty. However, the gerbera variety holds an added meaning of cheerfulness, which stems from the assortment of colors available.

Widdle Bunnies by chaos_magess
Whoever thought that I would find a rabbit hole smack dab in the center of my neighbor's yard? I actually have to thank the mother since she was sitting very still on top of it - that's how I noticed it. Enjoy!

Alpine Valley, Colorado Style by clif9710
Taken on the road between Silverton and Durango Colorado. I came over the top of a hill, caught a glance of this scene and kept right on driving. Then the photographer in me awoke and I jammed on the brakes to return and take this shot. Used an Olympus C-5050

on the bonnie, bonnie banks of Loch Lomond (revised) by fogz
.....and here you are Loch Lomond with a straight horizon! :):) (put that tape measure away Jerry!) listen to me - a woman is always right! ok! say yes you agree! lol! and as I am deleting the original image, I am copy pasting the text: .....as the song goes. On Wednesday I left Edinburgh on a tour to Stirling Castle and Loch Lomond - we were a party of just 11 travelling in a Mercedes minibus and our driver was called Donald of course ;) He was a mind of information and could quote any fact about Scottish history and what a character he was. This was our final destination of the day - Balmaha on the banks of Loch Lomond. The Loch is the largest single waterway in Britain and measures 27 square miles - it is stunningly beautiful especially on a good day and I was lucky to have good weather on Wednesday too. We walked part way around the lake and up a steep hill, stopping for oxygen half way up - I was pooped! lol! but when we got to the top the view was magnificent - more photos from there to post later. This view is when we had made the descent and stood at the side of the Loch - hence the title, on the bonnie bonnie banks of Loch Lomond! :)

the Roaches... by fogz
...another day, another hill, another hike .....and today I was in Staffordshire climbing the hills and rocky landscape known as 'Hen Cloud' and 'the Roaches' ......and here we are heading towards the top of 'Hen Cloud' with views over to 'the Roaches' - did you manage to keep up with me??? hello! hello! hello! - can you hear me down there? lol! ...and if you look down below you will be able to see how far we have come as you can see my car - 2nd one down of the five cars parked in the first layby - we have walked through the gate just after the layby, across the field where the sheep are and up this steep rocky face and only half way up ... I hope you are feeling fit because when we have reached the top we will be descending via the same route then climbing the Roaches which you can see on the far side! ...no good sitting down protesting!! I am on a mission ;) the sheep and the tiny specks (people) will give you some idea of the scale! :)

Zugspitze by neolucidity
Took this while in Graineau, Germany - just walking along the road. Zugspitze is the highest mountain in Germany, and theres a good restaurant on the observation deck all the way at the top (get the steak & onions if you get a chance :D ).

Birling Gap by nigelmoore
Last weekend I got to do a walk that I've wanted to do for a while. It's easy enough to walk along the top of the cliffs on this stretch of Sussex Coast; but if you co-ordinate carefully with the tide you can walk under the cliffs. We started at the lowest point that you can see off on the left, which is Birling Gap, and walked to Cuckmere Haven. The cliffs are known as the Seven Sisters and are where my picture of the Belle Tout lighthouse was taken. More information here - you can see the entire distance in the picture on the website.

Balsam Garden by phasmid
This is in the front of the Balsams Hotel :) There is a little lake right down the hill from here, as you can see, and their golf course starts up a "hill" two miles up a paved road behind the hotel. I don't golf, but I'm not sure I'd like to golf down a mountainside, but the views at the top were good and claimed to look all the way into Canada.. :)PJ

Horizon Moon by philcUK
An old image from the Expedition 13 crew on the ISS which was a nice shot but very poor quality with lots of noise, banding and lack of definition - must have been using a Nikon that day instead of the tried and tested Kodaks :-) Tried to fix it up as much as possible without going too over the top.

All lit up, nowhere to go! by theradman
This is a shot from inside the Butterfly Museum in Niagra Falls Ontario. I do not know what type of butterfly it is but I loved the way it caught the light on the top of this tree. (ISO 400, f5.6 1/400 200mm)

Ocean Cloud Fluff!! by verenabloo
Today at the beach it was the most awesome sight! This HUGE mass of low lying clouds covered a large area of the beach and water. I was driving on the hiway at the top of Neakhanie Mountain..and many people had pulled over, so I did too..and I saw this fantastic site! Its the first time in 25 yrs of beach going that I've seen this take place. When you were down below on the beach, the ocean couldn't be seen at all...only the beach. In time it all dissipated..and things were back to "normal" ..but it wasquite a sight.! I'm SO glad I didn't miss!! Hope you enjoy it as well!
