Two of a Kind by garrettparkinson
Also taken at the Sand Diego zoo. I altered this one a little. The tigers had a chain link fence behind them. I used the clone stamp to hide it. As a rule, I do not alter images of animals in the wild, but when in captivity, I do not like to see anything that makes them look captive. I hope you don't mind.

Out Of Missouri by 0930_23
Most of Sunday, after church, was spent catching up on comments and watching football. About mid afternoon I asked my wife if she would like to go on a little picture taking Safari. She agreed, but took her book to read when I was busy shooting.

It was the youth deer season over the weekend and my middle grandson, Bronson (6), had shot a little button buck. It was his first and he was really excited. I decided to see if I could get any shots of deer with the camera. First I saw two magnificent bucks but they were about 1/2 mile away. It looked like they were going to do battle. I turned around to get their picture, but while I was focusing one of them ran away and the other stepped into the timber, It was quite a site with the sun shining on their antlers and the bean field where they were standing. I took a photo anyway and you can make out the buck in the timber at a high magnification. I saw another buck but it was too dark to get a shot. I also saw a little deer right in front of my truck. If I hadn't hit the brakes I would have had a deer as well.

There was a pond and a hillside covered with geese but they were a little off in the distance as well. I did get a shot of them. It was about this time that I saw this scene. It looked like it could be anywhere in the world. Even Africa. I could imagine all kinds of wild animals running around in the darkness while the sun was setting. I did very little to this shot other then resizing. I hope it looks good on your monitors because it really looks nice on mine. Hopefully it is not too dark for your tastes. My wife said this should be "The Tree" for the song I have on you tube. Maybe she's right. Enjoy.

Horsing Around-Chapter Forty Five

I found this photo in my golf bag and it made me wonder what happened to Chip. He is approaching a year old and first appeared in the Horsing Around series in Chapter Five. I think this will make the fifth time he has appeared making him even more famous than Junior. If you would like to take a stroll through the series you can go here and work your way backwards. I still see his dad (Everett) and mom (Penny), but Chip has moved on to hopefully greener pastures. I might have to recruit the Malta Falcon to help me again. I heard Bogie let him go because of the economy. Plus he was stealing oats.

Chip is still a colt and keeps that title until he reaches the age of four. Let's hope they call him a stud at that point in his life. It is when he approaches his first birthday they decide whether he is going to join the breeding stock. If he doesn't, it hurts me to say this, he will become a gelding. All I can say about a gelding is they have no need for a golf bag. I can't imagine anyone not wanting more little Chips around. He's the spitting image of Everett so I would say his chances are pretty good. I better go call the Malta Falcon and get him on the case. Chip might need to be rescued.

Here is another photo of the new baby horse on our pasture. We don't own this happy mom and her colt...we just lease the space to their owners. Active Wader by garrettparkinson
I caught this Snowy Egret hunting in a small stream. While standing on one leg, it would shake its other near the bottom of the stream. Any small animal that might be disturbed and try to swimm away would be snatched up and eatten. The amazing thing was that the bird did not cloud the water as it moved along.
garrettparkinson-1262053058.jpg
Little General by garrettparkinson
I think that Hummingbirds are amazing creatures and that it is so special when one lands nearby and holds its ground. The Little General is one of those fearless individuals. He vigilently defends his territory from any and all intruders. In my case I was able to set up about 15 feet away from one of his favorite perches. He would busilly buzz off on one of his missions only to return a minute or two later uneffected by my presense. In the animal kingdom there are two principle types of color; pigmented and structural. Irridescent color in a bird feathers is an example of structural color,( or the bending of light like in a prism). When light does not strike the feather properly the color appears black or gray, but when the light strikes just right it is bent and apears irridescent green, magenta, blue, yellow, etc. This image exemplifies the light striking both ways.

Clash of the Titans by garrettparkinson
Elephant Seal bulls can weigh up to 6,000 pounds. While these two young bulls aren't there yet, there size is still formidible. This battle is about taking the beach and the females it holds. Neither of these two bulls are old and large enough to hold a harem but they are still driven to try. After all to the victor lies the spoils. Aging males basically centers around the size of their nose or proboscis and the amount of scarring on their neck and proboscis. The seal on the left is older and has the larger proboscis. Both are beginning to get the scarring around their necks. A truly old male's proboscis is much larger and is pink with scarr tissue. Ofcourse these guys are snug in the sand with the females defending their harems. The beachmasters can't be everywhere, so now and again a young bull will make it up into the cows, to possibly have his way.........

I've Struck the Mother Lode by muggsy
Or so this "RED Squirrel" must have thought to himself ... sitting atop a feast of nuts and seeds. This little guy is slightly larger than a chipmunk but smaller than the more common "GRAY" most often seen throughout NY. However under the strict wildlife protectorate in the Adirondack Park region, I'm told the Red outnumbers the Gray (Note the black stripe that separates the white underside from the reddish back.) Despite their size they are more aggressive than their larger Gray cousins, but nonetheless entertaining with their acrobatic antics. On the down side, the locals tell me they can create havoc should one manage to find it's way into the house.

Ready To Talk by 0930_23
Horsing Around–Chapter Forty Nine

The horses whinnied at me the other day and just like I predicted, they are ready to talk. The last time I saw them they were still reluctant to tell me about Chip and his whereabouts. They had mentioned a filly knew where he was but they thought the Amish had purchased her. Lazy, the one on the left, said she knew for sure the filly knew all about Chip. He also knew the Amish had her because she was in the lot across the road and he saw the whole thing. An Amish buggy showed up a daylight and the filly was tied on behind the buggy. Lazy said the reason she remembered it so well was because the stud pulling the buggy was quite muscular. She thought about jumping the fence to get a closer look but she was afraid she would end up having to work for a living. She liked the lazy life better than a roll in the hay. Crazy agreed with everything Lazy was saying. That is Crazy on the right. Hazy wasn’t too trustful, so she is hiding behind them. If you look hard, you can see Grazy on the hill doing what he does best.

After visiting with them for quite a while, I knew the direction the Amish buggy went and so I started my search. There are not too many Amish in this area so all I had to do was follow the Road Apple Fritters. I couldn’t help but think of Owd Momma and EJ as I saw some fresh ones steaming in the road. Sure enough they led straight to a home where there were buggies and horses of all shapes and sizes. The house was dark, which was not unusual since they don’t have electricity. I like taking pictures there because you don’t have to clone out any lines. I walked down to the barn and started asking if there was a filly that had recently joined their herd. As luck would have it she was in one of the stalls. She was standing in the stall and from the light that was filtering through from the outside I could tell she didn’t care for being Amish. When I asked her about Chip, she started pawing at the floor and I swear I saw a spark in her eye. She said she knew him and knew where he was. When I asked her where, she said: “I will tell you, but there is a condition.” to be continued....................................
