ARCHES by LANJOCKEY
At the end of the day, dark clouds brought the rain then the evening sun appeared and offered me an opportunity to take some photographs…. I wasn’t the only one who stopped to take notice of this rainbow that formed over the arched railway bridge.....The rainbow lingered over the bridge for at least two to three minutes giving me plenty of time to take several photographs before gradually dissipating…..Please enjoy.

This is a small canal underneath a bridge near my house. I was passing by early this morning and decided to stop and take a photo of it with the sun shining through the trees like this. It looks kind of spooky doesn't it ?. I'd hate to cross this bridge at night walking LOL. Thanks everyone for stopping by- I appreciate it.

My entry into the "Framing" competition. My favorite subject at present, the bridges over the river Tyne at Newcastle. Sri Dalada by priyanthab
"Sri Dalada" temple of the tooth relic at Kandy - Sri Lanka. "Following the ancient tradition, since the bringing of the sacred Tooth Relic to Sri Lanka in the 4th century AD, Kandyan kings too established the Relic shrine within the precincts of the Royal Palace. As seen in the 1765 Dutch plan, the Royal Palace and the Tooth Relic shrine were well guarded by a moat and strong ramparts with three bridges to enter the complex, viz.one to enter the Royal Palace, one to enter the Audience Hall meant for dignitaries and the third to enter the Tooth Relic Temple. During the rule of the last king, Sri Vikrama Rajasimha, the central bridge and the one leading to the Relic shrine have been joined into one as seen today" Visit the official site here http://www.sridaladamaligawa.lk/english/

Crisp Rome at Night (Ponte Saint Angelo) by ajmitchell
This is a classic capture of Ponte Saint Angelo (bridge), Castle Saint Angelo with the Vatican (Saint Peter's Basilica) illuminated in the distance. Its taken from Lungotevere tor di Nona - which was quite deserted at the time. Long exposure and tripod gave a smooth effect on the water. The time was 6pm in the evening whilst the city commuters hurried home.

Le Mont Saint Michel by endless
The same castle, actually an abbey. You can see the details better in this one, too bad that it was being repaired. I searched from wikipedia some interesting things :"The Mount was connected to the mainland via a thin natural land bridge, which before modernization was covered at high tide and revealed at low tide. Thus, Mont Saint Michel gained a mystical quality, being an island half the time, and being attached to land the other: a tidal island." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mont_Saint_Michel

Infrabridge by JQ
not quite dusk this evening, with the infra red filter. i've even found out some information for you all about the bridge... shock horror!! Bishop Bridge is the only surviving medieval bridge in the city of Norwich. It was built in 1340, one of the oldest bridges still in use in England. A fortified gatehouse stood on the bridge until the 18th century, and the semi-circular projection you can see today is part of its outer turrets. In 1549 it became a battlefield, when Robert Kett's rebels fought royal troops. The rebels overcame the defenders, and ran amok through Norwich. You can see the arms of the city - a lion and castle - carved over a central arch; the Red Lion pub probably derives its name from this. Originally owned by monks, the prior was allowed to build houses on the bridge but had to allow access for people and their horses beside the arches. In 1393 it was handed over to the city

Bridge Over The Kakanui River by LynEve
I normally just drive over this bridge but seeing the late afternoon sun giving it this golden look I stopped and clambered down a fishermens' boat ramp to get some shots. This river was recently in flood and some branches carried along by its flow can still be seen clinging to the bridge.Yesterday it was so peaceful and still, and it is difficult to see where the reflection starts. . . Millennium bridge & Sage theatre by Leahcim_62
A good pal I work with offered to lend me his Tamron 11-18 wide angle lense, so I popped down to the Millennium bridge @ Newcastle & took this shot just after sunset. I know this shot has been taken many many times, but as any photographer knows each one is individual & memorable to those who have taken it. Just after I took this & was walking back over the bridge my son rang & asked for a lift home, so the moment passed & back into "Dad's taxi" mode for me!!LOL... But the image always remains... :))

The Causey Arch is a bridge near Stanley in County Durham. It is the world’s oldest surviving railway bridge. It was built in 1725-26 by stonemason Ralph Wood, funded by a conglomeration of coal-owners known as the "'Grand Allies'" (founded by Colonel Liddell and the Hon. Charles Montague) at a cost of £12,000. Two tracks crossed the Arch: one (the main way) to take coal to the River Tyne, and the other (the bye way) for the returning the empty wagons. Over nine hundred horse-drawn wagons crossed the arch each day using the Tanfield Railway.

Tower Bridge by JQ
When it was built, Tower Bridge was the largest and most sophisticated bascule bridge ever built ("bascule" comes from the French for "see-saw"). It was a hydraulically operated bridge, using steam to power the enormous pumping engines. The energy created was then stored in six massive accumulators so that, as soon as power was required to lift the Bridge, it was readily available. The accumulators fed the driving engines, which drove the bascules up and down. Despite the complexity of the system, the bascules only took about a minute to raise to their maximum 86 degrees. Nowadays, the bascules are still operated by hydraulic power, but since 1976 they have been driven by oil and electricity rather than steam.

Expect the unexpected by J_E_F
I've noticed that when walking the dog in the ravine, if I don't take my camera with me, it's like walking through a Disney diorama of furry critters. Yet if I take the camera, there's nothing.

So last night I grabbed it at the last second and didn't expect to see anything, what with the mountain bikers whizzing along the track and a gaggle of youths squawking by that red bridge.

So imagine my surprise at finding an owl, perched on the outer limb of a pine tree. We went as close as we dared, until I noticed that the trees were 'crawling' with owls. Well, Ma, Pa and baby owls . {might have been 2}. That's when memories of Hitchcock films or Stephen King stories work on the imagination, and I decided that my little pooch didn't need to attract too much culinary attention from these raptors. Anyway - lesson learned.

Keep the camera packed, as you just never know.
