Brilliance with Charm! by marilynjane
I bought these sunflowers at a near by flower shop, and did this especially for those sweet people who thought I had rushed in the fall season too soon! Teasing! The fact is, I couldn't resist them, they were so lovely! The lighting was perfect, well, I was quite satisfied with the conditions in general, so I went to work! I am quite pleased that the photo turned out pretty nice! Enjoy my friends! Marilyn

Friday Echo by LynEve
My ever faithful Liverpool Echo - again, this time in a pensive mood. One of the last blooms of the season - she is now pruned and preparing for the next blooming. She is very resilient (maybe like all Liverpudlians) and seems to thrive on neglect. She has not been sprayed for about 4 years and my inexpert pruning is a very haphazard operation. I do talk to her though - perhaps that helps lol . . . Panasonic DMC-FZ7. . .Thanks for viewing. Any comments most appreciated and valued.

Out Of Missouri by 0930_23
Most of Sunday, after church, was spent catching up on comments and watching football. About mid afternoon I asked my wife if she would like to go on a little picture taking Safari. She agreed, but took her book to read when I was busy shooting.

It was the youth deer season over the weekend and my middle grandson, Bronson (6), had shot a little button buck. It was his first and he was really excited. I decided to see if I could get any shots of deer with the camera. First I saw two magnificent bucks but they were about 1/2 mile away. It looked like they were going to do battle. I turned around to get their picture, but while I was focusing one of them ran away and the other stepped into the timber, It was quite a site with the sun shining on their antlers and the bean field where they were standing. I took a photo anyway and you can make out the buck in the timber at a high magnification. I saw another buck but it was too dark to get a shot. I also saw a little deer right in front of my truck. If I hadn't hit the brakes I would have had a deer as well.

There was a pond and a hillside covered with geese but they were a little off in the distance as well. I did get a shot of them. It was about this time that I saw this scene. It looked like it could be anywhere in the world. Even Africa. I could imagine all kinds of wild animals running around in the darkness while the sun was setting. I did very little to this shot other then resizing. I hope it looks good on your monitors because it really looks nice on mine. Hopefully it is not too dark for your tastes. My wife said this should be "The Tree" for the song I have on you tube. Maybe she's right. Enjoy.

Hay Bales - Natchez Trace Parkway by charlescurtis
Driving down the Natchez Trace Parkway is always a wonderful experience. I have made it a practice to drive "the Trace," in every season. It was a gloomy day, but I enjoyed these hay bales in a field on the parkway. I had a lot of fun working with this image. For more info re: the Natchez Trace Parkway go to: http://www.nps.gov/natr/

Woodbe Woodpecker by muggsy
Starlings are NOT among my favorite birds. In large numbers they are a nuisance. In small groups ... bullies at the feeders. But I have to give them their due. Seasonal plummage in the right light can be nothing less than stunning to the eye. I haven't caught this one displaying those fluorescent hues, but I think this one of the better bird images I've captured of late. Obviously a biased opinion ... so I await yours "pro" or "con". Feel comfortable in expressing a "con" comment ... I hope I never get too old to accept an honest critique from which I can learn.

The end of summer by Mannie3
This shot was on the Costa Da Caparica, just outside Lisbon. Taken of the 2nd October, the beaches are fairly empty and with no lifegaurd patrols as the beach season is 'offically' over. But it was still touching 30C in the afternoon. Looks like Autumn forgot to reach Portugal this year.. :-)

It was a trek from the car so had to leave mom behind and she got a nap in while I hiked out to this lake. I was not dissapointed in what I found. This is truly my favorite time of the year. =^..^= Sandi

A late Bee by wimida
Spoken normally to see you for this time of the year no more bees. But because the temperature is still high for the time of the year. To come there all kinds of insecten at turn on. These Bee have a photographed today. Them they still the insecten but are already lethargic there. They fly on their last end, of this season. Generally they do not survive the winter but get a next generation a new chance. Their new chance meant our spring. We must firstly a winter by, a winter of which we do not know if he torsel becomes or not. If this new generation flies we let us can talk concerning a winter.

hmmm, didn't know what category to put this in so I decided on the most salient feature... I also thought I had missed the sunset till I happened on upper mill pond in brewster (cape cod, massachusetts)... a sign that the 'season' is warming up with the weather is the appearance of boats back in the water...

Autumn Hay Bales by ajmitchell
Last month, there was an amazing sunset near my home in Leicestershire (UK). I rushed to get the camera and pretty well missed it! At the tail end, I managed to scamble into a farmer's field and take this shot of the end of season Hay Bales, ready for collection. I know the horizon is not perfectly level....but that was because the field itself wasn't level! Tech: Minolta 7D (ISO100) F22 2seconds, no filter, minimal manip.

Peacock butterfly - Inachis io by ekowalska
Some intro: Peacock butterflies, accustomed to the more temperate regions of Eurasia, primarily inhabit woods, fields, meadows, pastures, parks, and gardens. Following their reemergence in early spring, the mature peacock butterflies feed on flowering sallows, dandelions, wild marjoram, danewort, hemp agrimony, and clover fields. As the season progress into fall and these plants are no longer abundant, the butterflies begin to feed upon asters, thistles, chrysanthemums, sap from deciduous trees, and overripe fruit. /by Ellie Portwood/

Elusive Buck by gerryp
I titled this as an Elusive Buck because I am seeing Deer pretty well everday on my excursions through this bush but have not seen a Buck for over a month since mating season finished. Last Saturday I took my dog Hanna for early morning walk in bush and seen some Does so tied hanna to tree and tried to get pictures but Hanna seen them and her barking spooked them so I brought Hanna back to my Van and went back myself and found them but they were still spooked. So I ended up chasing them for about an hour through bush and got back to area I had never been before and this Buck turned up.

what doesn't 'close for the season' in rock harbor are the sunsets, and of course the Sunset Watchers who live yearround on cape cod still come out to watch... sometimes it isn't the actual sun setting that's so memorable as the quiet, muted hues mingling together in sky and water, from the azure melting into indigo sky to the pale apricot tinge on the clouds...

SENIORITY by LANJOCKEY
I spent my childhood in the Highlands of Scotland and from mid September to mid November you could hear the haunting sound of roaring stags in the hills and glens as the breeding season got underway…Stags are the heaviest at this time of the year and the roaring helps to establish seniority within the herd….Please enjoy.

Topsoil by Mythmaker
The title might seem a bit opaque but that muddy colour in the water is the topsoil flowing suspended in the stream that cannot be seen to the bottom right of this shot. It was the rainy season so a lot of stuff was being washed into the ocean. The mouth of the stream looked like a construction site, that's why it's not in shot! I like the way the headland shape echoes the cloud formation.

Enjoy.

The River Plym No 2 by sasraku
Depending on the season the woodland floor can be carpeted with wood anemones, bluebells, primroses, wild garlic or foxgloves. The quarries and cliff faces have an abundant display of interesting ferns, mosses and lichens. A secretive herd of fallow deer roam freely in the woods occasionally being spotted disappearing into the undergrowth or maybe grazing in the grassland at the edges of the wood. Other mammals include stoats, weasels, foxes, badgers, water voles, wood mice and common shrews whilst there has been recorded the rare signs of otters on a few occasions. Frog and toads along with spectacular dragonflies can be found in the wetter areas whilst adders and lizards sometimes bask on the south facing scree slopes. A range of butterflies can be seen in the grassy meadows and the woodland glades. The birdlife is varied with heron, kingfisher, cormorant and dipper regularly nesting and feeding along the water. Mandarin and mallard ducks raise their young and there has even been a little egret noted on several occasions. Woodpeckers, wood warblers, tree pipits, jays and buzzards frequent the woods. In the river, salmon, sea trout and eels can sometimes be spotted.

Then, the inevitable blizzard will come, blighting our harbingers of spring, and the numbed yards will go back undercover. what kind of bird am i? by jeenie11
i took this the same day i took the one of the royal tern. i have looked and look to find the name of this bird. can anyone help? enjoy!!! thanks to member "queenie" i now know about the bird. here's the info she sent me.Hi Jeenie. I looked it up in the National Audubon Society Field Guide to Birds. It shows a picture of this bird............... It is a female "Magnificent Frigatebird" (fregata magnificent). The females are distinguished by the white breast; the males, red breast. "The male has a throat patch that inflates to a huge size during courtship". They are "silent at sea; harsh gutteral calls during courtship". They are found in open ocean and inshore waters; nests on mangrove islands. They lay 1 white egg in a flimsy nest of sticks built in mangrove clumps. In breeding season, they are mostly in Florida Bay, and elsewhere in tropical Atlantic and Pacific oceans. In non-breeding season, ranges to coasts of NC, TX, and CA. Where did you see this one?? Not in Phoenix, I imagine! :-)) It also says "Frigatebirds, also called man-o'-war-birds, are among the most agile of birds on the wing. They have the largest wingspread in proportion to weight, of any bird. In addition to stealing fish from other seabirds, their most famous method of obtaining food, they can soar for hours" and then dive to grab fish or the young of other birds. "Frigates never alight on the ground or the water; their short legs and narrow wings maide it difficult to take off except from a height, such as the limb of a tree or a rock."

Bright Eye - Pansies 2011 by trixxie17
Yesterday in the Chicago area was about as miserable as it gets in the Spring - 41F. and winds at 30MPH right off Lake Michigan with fog and driving mizzle(drizzle/mist). I had had it with no signs of Spring so we trekked to the garden centers and came home with our pansies for the season. Now I have some color on my terrace at least! (Pansies like this miserable weather.) This is the first of a series of my pansies - the colors are all in blue/violet tones and are all Matrix pansies - a new type with unusual faces. All comments and critiques appreciated.

Misty Morning by gerryp
This image was taken last week out at Nature Preserve. It was an about an hour after daybreak on a very foggy morning. I walk through this bush almost everyday and a lot of my posts are from this area. The bush area here is all deciduous trees and is part of what is known as the Carolinian forest of North America. Where I live, in southern Ontario, Canada, is the most northern reach of the Carolinian forest. Right now my goal is to capture on camera the Deer that are in this area. There is a lot of Deer around this area right now as it is mating season. This same morning I took this photo I seen a doe about 30 yards from me in the mist but missed the shot because did not have right camera setting... but i will keep trying and eventually get some photos of them to post...

Owl season 2011 by J_E_F
It's great when the snow goes - I can get down into the ravine with the dog and meet our friends again.

Right on cue, almost as if placed by Walt himself was this lovely Barred Owl.

Usual issues with early evening light in the treed undergrowth, using a 300mm lens with an f stop of f5.6. One of these days I'll get my f1.4 lens close enough to get a clearer shot. Then again, I'd probably have to hand raise an owl chick from birth to get that close.

The Pleasure of Yellow! by marilynjane
It was a beautiful day, but with only lingering lillies! It is the end of the season for my hybrid beauties! About two weeks, beginning in July, they blossom and then slowly cease to do so! A rather short season indeed, but what an array of color floods my yard during this short period! I hope they bring you a bit of cheer! Marilyn

A New Star in the East by nmsmith
May God fill your soul with light, peace, and joy this holiday season, and in the coming years. Merry Christmas to you, dear friends! Nathan Smith ........................................................................................ This image combines a stock.xchng photo (the trees), with one of LaPurr's lovely fractals (which I've warped to give the sky it's windblown look), and coloring and stars I've painted. Thanks, Kat, for allowing me to use your fractal. This is my Christmas gift to you, dear friends. If you wish, you may use it as a Christmas card design. Again, Merry Christmas.

Truly Baron by panoramaster
This is the final major drop in the 'water feature' that is Baron Falls, Kuranda, Queensland, Australia. In all its glory, it is supposed to be one of most spectacular waterfalls in the state, possibly the country, but the yet to arrive and at the time late wet season had reduced it to a creek. DMC-FZ20, F/4.6, 1/500 sec, ISO-80.

She was Kept in the Closet by phasmid
I took her pic back in March, but she kept saying, "No, no, no. It's not my time." I pushed her forward in the midst of the season and told her to take her lumps.

Luna Sleeping by Seasons
I wanted to see if I could get a close-up of Luna without waking her. She slept right through it! She is so sweet! :)

Last of the Season by SEFA
This was taken in the municipal park in the city Örebro where they have a wonderful rose garden. It was a rainy day and to protect my camera from getting wet i had to take cover under the big old trees. I was running between the trees and the roses, quickly taking photos of the flowers. It must have looked funny :-) Enjoy! All comments are most wellcome. I thank you in advance for taking the time. Always greatly appreciated!

It got cold enough Sunday night into Monday morning that we had our first frost of season. This is the effect it had on foliage of plants before sun burned it off..

Carpodacus mexicanus by Hottrockin
The House Finch (Carpodacus mexicanus) is a medium-sized finch. Adults have a long brown tail and are a brown or dull-brown color across the back with some shading into deep grey on the wing feathers. Breast and belly feathers may be streaked. In most cases, adult males have a reddish color to their heads, necks and shoulders. This color sometimes extends to the stomach and down the back, between the wings. The male coloration varies in intensity with the seasons and is derived from the berries and fruits in its diet. As a result, the colors range from pale, straw yellow, to bright orange, to deep, intense red. Adult females have brown upperparts and streaked underparts. Feel free to read more RIGHT HERE .

2 Seasons, One Photo by KevJames3
Cannon beach taken at Ecola State Park. Notice that there is still snow in the mountains and that it looks like summer on the beach. Interesting fact: Ecola State Park was named after the whale that Lewis and Clark found on the beach. Ecola was indian (of that region, I think) for whale

Winter Light #2 by LynEve
This and Winter Light#1 are both from my 'bin' - they were taken from the same spot along the road from where I live, with my Panasonic DMC-FZ7 and post work done in PSP. This is the zoom view -you can see the haystack in both. . . .thanks for viewing, comments always welcome and appreciated. . . . . . . Flow Obsession 10 by Mythmaker
A small falls on Koh Chang, Thailand. In the dimness of the jungle a tripod was absolutely essential for many shots, not just one's like this. Many of the falls in Thailand are seasonal, running strong in the Rainy Season and drying up entirely in the deep of the Hot season. I was there in the Rainy Season.

Enjoy.

The Blooms Smiles Have Begun! by Roseman_Stan
The cooler and rainy weather here made things slower this season, however the bloom smiles have now started. This is one of my favorite roses, hope you enjoy her too. Thank you for your views and comments!

Monarch on Asters by wheedance
We had week of warm weather and a group of about 200 monarchs came to an area Waystation to feed on their migration south. It's very late in the season for them to be here so it was a total surprise. I'll have a few more monarch pictures coming!

Autumn Color by gerryp
I thought this would be a good capture for the Autumn season. This is a young Maple tree. In my area right now the leaves are in the beginning stages of color change. Should be spectacular in next few weeks...and I hope to capture this in all it's glory.

verde river sheep crossing bridge by jeenie11
near cave creek arizona. the suspension bridge is for pedestrians and sheep only. the rust on the bridge makes it so red. in the dry season a car could probably venture out and cross the river in a 4 wheel drive. however, right now the verde is a deep and fast moving river. sheepmen use the bridge to move their flocks from low pasture to high and back again according to the season. it was gorgeous. the ride there was long and rocky but well worth it. i was amazed to see this. again, in the background are the mazatzal mtns. and what is known as the mazatzal wilderness. thanks in advance for any comments. ENJOY!
