I posted this a long time ago, but never was really satisfied with it. Now I did some major color work to get rid of the greens on his face. And here's the result, now in 16:10 for widescreen monitors. Therefor I added some more space on the left to make it a good desktop ;o)

Also taken at the Sand Diego zoo. I altered this one a little. The tigers had a chain link fence behind them. I used the clone stamp to hide it. As a rule, I do not alter images of animals in the wild, but when in captivity, I do not like to see anything that makes them look captive. I hope you don't mind.

This is a picture taken in Oct. 2006. It is of a two-masted schooner which was docked at riverfront park in downtown Windsor on Detroit River. I think this ship was touring the Great Lakes. I know I took this early on a Sunday morning in Oct because I recall I could hear celebration going on across the river in Detroit, Michigan...but could not see Detroit because of fog. The reason for celebration was that the Detroit Tiger baseball team had beat the New York Yankees for the American League pennant and advanced to World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals...and we know how that turned out TICK!!...Anyways that is what I remember about that morning...

Leopard by Paul_Gerritsen
The leopard (Panthera pardus) is a member of the Felidae family and the smallest of the four "big cats" in the genus Panthera; the other three are the tiger, lion and jaguar. Once distributed across southern Asia and Africa, from Korea to South Africa, the leopard's range of distribution has decreased radically over time due to hunting and loss of habitat, and the leopard now chiefly occurs in sub-Saharan Africa. There are fragmented populations in Pakistan, India, Indochina, Malaysia, and China. Due to the loss of range and continual declines in population, the cat has been downgraded to "Near Threatened" species; its numbers are greater than that of the other Panthera species, all of which face more acute conservation concerns. The leopard has relatively short legs and a long body, with a large skull. Physically, it most closely resembles the jaguar, although it is usually smaller and of slighter build. Its fur is marked with rosettes which lack internal spots, unlike those of the jaguar. Leopards that are melanistic, either completely black or very dark in coloration, are one of the big cats known colloquially as black panthers. The species' success in the wild owes in part to its opportunistic hunting behaviour, its adaptability to a variety of habitats and its ability to move at up to approximately 60 kilometres (37 miles) an hour. The leopard consumes virtually any animal it can hunt down and catch. Its preferred habitat ranges from rainforest to desert terrains. Its ecological role and status resembles that of the similarly-sized cougar in the Americas.

Cat Camp_#1 by tigger3
I'm back from my overnight stay at the Exotic Feline Rescue Center.

They have at the current count 224 big cats = lions, tigers, puma's, leopard's, bobcat's, and a lynx.

All have different stories from terrible abuse and neglect, and some came from other center's that for one reason or another could not keep them, due to lack of funds. One place was miss handling the funds, and cheating with their bookkeeping so were shut down.

One of the saddest stories we were told (and there were many) was one about three tigers they have now in their care, that were being cared for by a 16 year old girl, while their owner was in Florida. She had run out of feed for them, and no money, she called him and told him of the situation, but he failed to send any money. After three days of not eating, she was still trying to care for them, and upon trying to give them water, had her arm pulled through the fencing, and while she bled to death, they made a meal of her arm. There was someone there with her, but even the 911 call did not help her. That story really touched me, and there were so many more.

If you find this story to offensive just let me know, and I'll edit it out.

I used the canon 70-200 lens with the kenko 1x4 converter, and had a time with the fencing.

I did what I could to either get rid of it in the focusing, and or editing.

Thank you for commenting, and this will be a series of captures with the lens from this wonderful place. Sorry for being so long winded :)

Helpful Hints by david_tio
I took this picture at the Oklahoma City Zoo. The day was cloudy and this specific exibition was surrounded by trees. I used the wrog F-stop on my camera. Also, there was some interference between the camera and the subject. You can see in the before and after pictures the dramatic change that a little photoshop can create. First: I used the AUTO LEVELS, which is the easyest step of the process. this lightens the photo and its easier to see what you want to modify. Second: I used CLONE STAMP to get rid of most of the fence, the trick is to use the size of brush that extends just over the fence wire. You also want to make sure and use the correct area to clone over the fence, you don't want to have a lot of repetition. I recomend using random places to clone, being careful not to use different tones! Third: Enhancing the color of the subject. I used the "BURN" and "DODGE" tool to darken the tiger stripes "BURN" and "DODGE" tool to make its fur clear. Also, on this same step you want to use the "REPLACE COLOR" to add color to the subjects fur. making sure that you chose the right color to "raplece" this is basically to your taste. on this step you can get rid of the fence that is over the subjects fur. Forth: Bluring the background which helps if you had a hard time using the clone stamp. On this shot I felt it looked better! Is a tedious proces, since you must have patince. But the outcome of the picture can be seen on the before and after picture. You can see the final product at high resolution HERE . please visit and vote let me know what you think! I hope this was useful! By the way Im using photoshop CS on my Mac. For more information you can send me a message. your vote is very important!

This beautiful tiger seemed to be playing peek-a-boo. Lol!

Using the canon 70-300 IS USM lens again, hand held shot through fencing.

I found that alot of my results dealing with the fencing was determined by where the tigers were in their fenced in areas in relation to the fence itself, and how much room I had to move around and get away from the fencing. We were not allowed to get close to the fence, which is very understandable.

The handlers were able to interplay somewhat with them through the fencing depending on the big cat.

Thanks for the support on this series, I was suprised how many shots I actually have been able to share with you.

I really like this flower...although I had to brave some wonderful poison ivy and thistles to reach it, I still made it! My backyard is a wee bit overgrown...

What Are You Lookin At? by hirschikiss22
This tiger from Hogle Zoo in Utah looks pretty serious, but he was actually playing with another tiger in the water. I was surprised to see that he was looking at me when I uploaded my photos onto the computer because the action was going on pretty fast! Thanks going out to Paul (busybottle) for helping me edit out the chain link fence.
