A view from the trail along the northwest edge of the Hetch Hetchy Resevoir in the more deserted northwest side of Yosemite National Park, California. This was taken in mid October (last weekend), with a definite fall dryness, and cold crispness to the air. You could definitely feel winter approaching. That's Kolana Rock smack in the middle. It rises more than 2000 feet over the water.

Clouds Rest (revised) by whttiger25
This concludes the pictures from my trip to Mt. Whitney. I took your suggestions, mainly to work on illuminating the foreground trees. Turned otu to be really easy with just a fill light adjustment and a slight increase to exposure. Couldn't push it too far though without things looking out of whack. PJ, I didn't have time to experiment with HDR but it is still on my todo list. Also cropped it a bit to get the peak in the upper left third and Yosemite valley descending to the lower right third. Lines, Patti... :) If you have extra time, download the 3000 pixel version and peruse the details of the granite face of Clouds Rest. There is a straightforward trail to the summit from behind the mountain, but don't you think it'd be a bit more exciting to climb it from this side?

Hello friends, long time! Sorry for my long absence, but as it turns out the hard drive failure was only the precurser for a much larger failure in my life. Don't worry, I'm doing just fine and I hope to be able to spend a little more time here in the relatively near future. I took this shot a few weeks ago on a weekend trip to the high sierra camps of Yosemite. This is one fork of the Lyell River, taken near Tuolumne Meadows. Thanks to all who view and comment.

Lembert Dome by trisweb
In Tuolumne Meadows, Yosemite Nat. Park California. Lembert Dome stands above everything else for miles around, and was left standing by a glacier which was deeper than the dome itself thousands of years ago. It eroded away the sediment and softer rock, but left the harder granite, polishing its surface as smooth as glass. You find this "glacial polish" all over the area, and you can still see the grooves and scratches from the rocks caught in the ice, a testament to the power of the glaciers.

I recently travelled the world and on my travels, I happened upon an Ansel Adams gallery in Vegas. Shortly afterwards, I visited the setting of many of his famous pictures, Yosemite National Park. I had an idea of taking a few photos in B&W to emulate the man himself. Although my shots are not of the same quality, I would like any comments on how I could improve. This shot in particular was very diffucult to capture as the light was in such contrasts. I think I spent a good 20 minutes sprawled on a very uneven rock to get the shot. While at Yosemite 2 years ago with my daughter and g-kids we drove on up to Glacier Point and this is part of the view from there.The falls are quite beautiful from here as they are from anywhere for that matter but I decided to frame them in the boulders rather than just out in the open for effect. The last time I visited Yosemite 2 years ago. My mother was dying of brain cancer and wanted to see her beloved Tuolumne Meadows. We stopped at the bridge over this span of the river. She marveled at the colors, the textures, the geology, the beauty. I've spent enough time over my life in this area that no image can truly capture its beauty. Ansel Adams came close but truly needs to be experienced in person.

This is on the ledge trail that was abandoned (officially) long ago. It's the third way to get to glacier point via trails from the Yosemite Valley. The trail offers probably the only view of Nevada Falls and Yosemite Falls within the same peripheral.

In the Sunol Regional Wilderness area south of here where we live in Walnut Creek is a wonderful hiking place with a small but impressive canyon/creek area known to the locals as Little Yosemite. We visited there a week ago and now that the creek is really low but still running we were able to walk in the riverbed and we came along this awesome tree wrapped around a rock so naturally I snapped a shot with all of you in mind and here you have it.
