Historic Little Place
This tiny US Post Office goes back many years, when the Pioneers were coming thru the Columbia River Gorge, right next to the Cascade Mountain Range in Oregon. Bridal Veil is actually a most beautiful waterfall. The falls rise 120' above the main road, which is near the Columbia River.
A beautiful trail goes near the top. There are wildflowers and herbs growing everywhere. The creek hustles down from the top of nearby Larch Mountain, tumbles over the cliff and eventually flows into the mighty Columbia River. There is a lower trail also, surrounded by logged beams and wire so everyone on the trail can be safe. This little post office is pretty special. Thought you all might enjoy seeing it. There is so much history in the Columbia River Gorge.Thanx for looking.

Chief Joseph Dam
Chief Joseph Dam is a 5,962 foot (1,817.2 m) long hydroelectric dam spanning the Columbia River, 1.5 miles (2.4 km) upriver from Bridgeport, Washington, USA. The dam was authorized as Foster Creek Dam and Powerhouse for power generation and irrigation by the River and Harbor Act of 1946. The River and Harbor Act of 1948 renamed the project Chief Joseph Dam in honor of the Nez Perce chief who spent his last years in exile on the Colville Indian Reservation. Like the nearby Grand Coulee Dam, Chief Joseph Dam completely blocks salmon migration on the upper Columbia River.
Construction began in 1949, with the main dam and intake structure completed in 1955. Installation of the initial generating units was completed in 1958. Eleven additional turbines were installed between 1973 and 1979, and the dam and lake were raised 10 feet (3 m), making Chief Joseph Dam the second largest hydropower producer in the United States.[1]
The dam is 545 miles (877 km) upriver from the mouth of the Columbia at Astoria, Oregon. It is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) Chief Joseph Dam Project Office, and has a capacity of 2,620 MW. The electricity is marketed by the Bonneville Power Administration (BPA).
The reservoir behind the dam is named Rufus Woods Lake, and runs 51 miles (82 km) up the river channel. Bridgeport State Park, on the lake, is adjacent to the dam.

The Magic Light
Here, where the Klickitat and the Columbia Rivers join, the Sunrises can be quite spectacular. The hot air of the mid-Columbia regions and the cooler air of the Columbia River Gorge can be a cause interesting atmospherics.

"Columbia". Do you remember?
National Air and Space Museum - Washington
---July 16-24, 1969--
First Manned Lunar Landing Mission.
The Apollo 11 Command Module "Columbia" carried astronauts Neil Armstrong, Edwin "Buzz" Aldrin, and Michael Collins on their historic voyage to the Moon and back on July 16-24, 1969. This mission culminated in the first human steps on another world.
The Apollo 11 spacecraft had three parts: the Command Module, the Service Module, and the Lunar Module "Eagle". While astronauts Armstrong and Aldrin descended to the Moon in "Eagle", Michael Collins remained alone in "Columbia". For 28 hours he served as a communications link and photographed the lunar surface. After reclaiming Armstrong and Aldrin from the ascent stage of the Lunar Module, "Columbia" was the only part of the spacecraft to return to Earth.
The blunt-end design for the Command Module was chosen to build upon experience gained with the similarly shaped Mercury and Gemini spacecraft. The spacecraft reentered the atmosphere with its protective heat shield facing forward. Layers of special "ablative" material on the shield were purposely allowed to burn away during reentry to help dissipate the extremely high temperatures caused by atmospheric friction.
Height: 3.2 m (10 ft 7 in)
Maximum Diameter: 3.9 m (12 ft 10 in)

Roll On Columbia Roll On
Again the Mighty Columbia River near Portland Oregon. This is one of my favorite places to photograph from. From here the River never looks the same from moment to moment. It is truly a magical place............Remember my friends:............When you were born, you cried and the world rejoiced. Live life in such a manner that when you die, the world cries and you rejoice.

The Crowned Prince
This Blue Heron was photographed next to its' nest, this spring. The Rookery is located on the banks of the Columbia River in an area known locally as The Reach. It flows through Hanford Atomic Sight and is the last free flowing section of the Columbia River above Bonneville Dam to the Canadian border.----- It looks like he's wearing a feathered crown as an old Chinese Emperor.

Beautiful British Columbia
Part of the dividing point between Alberta and British Columbia is marked by the watershed along the Rocky Mountains; with waters such as shown, flowing west to the Pacific. Aways away, but not as far as those that flow east, to the Atlantic.

Twilight
I was in Columbia Park (on the Columbia River) doing senior portraits. After I finished I waited around to see what the sunset would be like. I'm glad I did. This is about 5 miles from home.

The Bridge The Gods Built
This is an image of the Columbia River during one of its many windstorms. The wind blowing up the gorge from the Pacific Ocean, through the roots of the Cascade Mts. into the desert plains of central Washington can sometimes kick up enough water off of the river to produce a "Rainbow" where there is no rain. The Rainbow extends over the Columbia from Washington on the left bank to Oregon on the right bank.

Oregons Crown Point
On my "Sunday drive" today we were at the Columbia River Gorge and this is Vista House at Crown Point, Or.This is a close up view of the building on my last photo...and. this built as a memorial to the Oregon Pioneers and now it is also a gift shop of Oregon Souvenirs,It's located on a 733 foot cliff and is 44' around and 55' high. It was completed in 1918 and is an observatory where one can view far to the East and West down the Columbia River and one of the most spectacular vistas in the world. Most of the inside of this building is made of Tokeen Alaskan Marble and Kasota Limestone. It's one of the most photographed sites in the world. I love going up here especially when the sky is this pretty, its a huge Nat'l Forest and about 1 1/2 hrs from my home, ...thank you so much for stopping in.

Oregons Mighty Columbia River Gorge
Finally a good day to get away..so we went for a drive thru part of the Columbia River Gorge today.A perfect day for it.It sure felt good to see some pretty scenery for a change, along with good weather for photo taking. This area is a National Forest and the River cuts thru Oregon and Washington and is 80 miles long and up to 4,000 feet deep with canyon walls in Oregon. This is where the Oregon Trail went thru, led by Lewis and Clark.. and it's the only sea-level route through the Cascade Mountain Range in Oregon. The Gorge has 77 waterfalls. It's also the boardsailing capital of the world. It works like a wind tunnel generating high winds. At its highest point stands Crown Point, where Vista House overlooks this spectacular view.It is a gift shop with many things from the Pacific Northwest being sold there. I will post a closer up version of Crown Point on the next pic.It was a grand getaway day for me,about an hour and a half from my house.I hope you enjoy this scene as much as I did...thanx for viewing..
