This appears to be a tree but what is the knot on the branch or the profile for that matter? I think the current contest (What Is It?) is surely open to the imagination. I don't think the answer or the photo needs to be definitive. If it does then I am barking up the wrong tree.

This is about as crazy to figure out as one of my fractals!...lol...I have no idea why that little knob showed up on the tree or what it looks like, but you did find a good subject for the contest Tick. Cool and superb capture!!! Good luck :-)

What a great entry, it looks like a person sitting on the tree when I look at in thumbnail size, larger size it changes the whoe perspective and thought. Very cool! Tigz♥ =^..^=

And then there's that face of a woman that appears to the left of the knot. I can see her eyes and mouth and a hint of a nose. The expression is hard to read, but she does look like she is trapped in that branch ... or perhaps a tree spirit. Even enlarged, the knot still looks like a person to me...a very small person who, again, is either trapped by the tree or a tree spirit of some kind. There seems to be a story here somewhere.

The way you have placed that figure on that tree and against that background is fantastic Tick. I don't know the rules of "What is it?" but why not a manipulation - The answer would be "Young Tick on a Giant tree" :)

So the trunk to the right is a woman with a prominent nose. The striations in the wood are her hair flowing down her back. Her arm is outstretched to the right. You can clearly see her shoulder to the right of the knot....ahhh...the knot! Why it's an angel looking into her face and consoling her. :)

The entire tree appears to be watching the sunset (that's a big honkin' nose up near the top) but, in the thumbnail at least, the tree has a small friend sitting on it's shoulder whose concentration is elsewhere. Since you listed it as a manip I'm thinking you replaced whatever sky was there before with this red sky. I pulled a copy a gave it a single tweak in Auto Levels and the result was gruesome; the tree turned blue and the sky became a sickly yellowish-green and orange. It looked like the earth in a hundred years when toxins fill the skies and the plant life has died. Freaky! I adjusted the exposure in another copy, making the tree darker, and that gave it a more ominous character... like somewhere in hell. An interesting entry and fun to let my mind wander with it.

Sure like the intensity of that amazing sky. To me it looks like a man sitting on the branch in indian fashion with a cloak over his shoulders and his head bowed in contemplation or prayer.
Nicely done. Good entry.

I thought what Sandi thought! I thought it must be a wee little man up there. This is a great looking "What Is It" entry for the contest, and it's just a great looking shot, period! Good luck, Tick.

That would be young Master Pippin sitting on Treebeard's shoulder as Isengard falls in the distance. An interesting image with good textures and colours in that fiery sky. Best of luck in the contest.

Tick - The elephant told a lie and, since the trunk was long already, secondary trunks grew instead. Love that background, too! Thad

Very creative shot, I see a little boy sitting on a high branch getting the best view of everything above and below him. Although, I'm sure that if I looked long enough, I would see many other things too.
