I was talking to Katie Elder the other day about her sons and she said they were all Cowboys. Big Jake was her favorite but she had a soft spot for Rooster. Cahill was a U.S. Marshall but he never was the same after he got In Harms Way. Katie had a daughter too and She Wore A Yellow Ribbon.
Katie said McLintock was A Quiet Man and he spent The Longest Day trying to catch The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance when he lived down Rio Bravo way. He joined some Searchers and even went North To Alaska with a band of Comancheros which took a lot of True Grit.
One son, Chisum, joined the Horse Soldiers and went to battle in a War Wagon and came home Undefeated wearing a Green Beret. He later died in a Stagecoach wreck along the Red River or the Rio Grande. She couldn't remember which one. Two other sons, McQ and Brannigan moved to Donovan's Reef and spent most of their time riding around in a Cadillac. I think it was an El Dorado. They drove it to see The Alamo on one of their trips. They were a couple of Hellfighters for sure.
A couple of her sons went off to World War II and one joined the Flying Tigers and was one of The Flying Leathernecks. They helped in Operation Pacific and provided support for The Fighting Seabees who were going Back To Bataan. Even though They Were Expendable, they never lost faith.
Katie was doing OK until she mentioned Marion who she said was a true Shootist and rode Tall In The Saddle. He was killed in the Sands of Iwo Jima and a tear came to her eye when she said he was with The High and the Mighty on The Island in the Sky. I took that as my clue to return home to Rio Lobo. Katie is quite the lady.
The statue is one I have owned for many years. I felt I had the right to use it in a photo.
