Everyone once in a while the photojournalist gets the better of me and I have to post a shot. I have unsuccessfully lobbied for a category for these. This house was moved yesterday in Greentop, Missouri. The house was headed for an Amish farm. I can only imagine the cost of having it moved. There were three different electrical companies involved and each one was charging over $500.00 per hour. It took all day to move the house 10 miles.

The house was 24 feet tall and 30 feet wide. When put on the trailer it became 32 feet wide, 28 feet tall and 42 feet long. The load weighed over 50 ton. The truck in front, had a pole extended to show the needed clearance. The worker in the bucket was holding up the power line to allow room for the house to pass by. The signs on the trucks read "Wide Load and Oversize Load" "Oh, really!"

I imagine it Might be Less money to Move a House than to Build one, these Days... even if It's a Pre-Fab! I'd love to Move an Old Barn onto a Plot, if the Price were right!! Neat snap, Tick... thanks for Sharing! I think this Site could Use a Few more categories Other than What's currently available...

Sheesh! The arm and leg they paid to move that house could have paid for a brand spankin' new 70x14 trailer! I understand though. Some people just can't handle livin' in the lap of luxury! So...it's move the house and be happy! Nice work on this "Up to the minute" news report picture! Well done, Jimmy Olsen!

What a cool shot and find, Tick. $500.00 an hour we are in the wrong business. I saw a house being moved a long time ago it was interesting to see. I love the fact that this house is being moved and not being destroyed. Photojournalist fits you well . Great post.
