Well, he's just a dandy fellow, isn't he? Not only did he pose for you, he decided he was going to be tack sharp in your lens as well. You always bring your camera to pick tomatoes? lol Excellent shot.
I love your play on words here - and of course the photo is great. The tomato , fence rail and background combine to make a pleasing design on their own account too.
My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
I haven't seen a praying mantis around here in years. Are they drawn to tomatoes? I would set out a whole bushel of them if they are. Fantastic shot, Tick. Outstanding quality!
Whoa. At first I thought you were anthropomorphizing the tomato, thinking this fruit simply had a nearly-dead stalk on it. Then I enlarged it and... whoa! When I was stationed in Japan in the early 70's, my Navy buddies and I found one of these behind our barracks and made a "pet" of it. Fascinating bugs they are. Ours was the bright green that John mentioned but Praying Mantises come in a variety of colors since there are more than 2,000 species. They are often green or brown in color, but there are many species that come in a variety of other colors and even patterns. Typically, praying mantises match the colors of their habitat. If a mantis lives on a specific flower, then it might have similar colors on its own body such as pink, yellow, and white. Green ones are usually found among trees and grass. This one you caught on "film" looks like tree bark. If you look around you'll likely see where in your area he fits in. I know you usually end your comments on others' images by saying you viewed it at full size and recommend others do the same. Well, I'm recommending that to anyone else. This ain't jist a tamater, folks! Excellent eye and capture, Ron

What a great shot,Tick. Stretched out in great detail. I cropped it even tighter, all the way into the left side of the tomato. Never saw one that close, and have only seen a single green version.
