I suspect a bolt of lightning started this tree's problem. My grandfather used to say he was "falling to staves." Judging from the pile of limbs on the ground, this tree is having the same problem.

I thought the tree still looked beautiful, even though it is stripped down to the bare bones. Since the tree is au naturale, I decided not to add any texture or birds

It made me think of this song.

You got a very good shot of the bare tree against the blue sky Tick. I would call it not "Barkless" but "Naked Beauty".

It is a beautiful shot, Tick...and you placed it where you get the greatest impact from it.

Marvelous shot and I also think the tree is still beautiful indeed. Really like it up against that amazing sky and lovely surroundings

It is still a grand old tree, and I would like to see a follow up of it say next year. That was one oldie but goodie song Mr. Ron.

That is a very nice scene Tick, I have one similar near me but I don’t have many options on how to shoot it.
I think this one will be around for a while yet, very nicely done.

Interesting, nicely composed and good colours, but why no vulture I wonder... LOL
Ask one Count to add some vultures on the branches - he has great herds [vulture herds?] of them I heard. LOL

That is what many a girlfriend said to me!...these days It is me that is 'Barkless'!....

Probably a disease attack made it like this!...they do look good for a photograph though...and you did just that!

I expected a quiet dog :)

I really like this image - very artistically captured Tick. Definitely needs no additions.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

This is what would be called "the blasted oak" in a not very good gothic horror novel. Trees like this always have a spooky feel about them and you caught this so well.

I suspect the problem was more in line with bark beetles than electrical. Good composition of the shot and a nice capture of the old barren tree.
