Foraging for food can be difficult at times. With all the recent snowstorms, these strange bedfellows were doing their best to locate a meal. The hunting seasons are closed for both deer and turkey at the present time, so they felt safe they weren't the dinner reservations.

I was returning home from a basketball game when I spied them in the open field. You seldom see them together, so I knew a photo was in order. I found it interesting there were six turkey and six deer. You can see the beards on five of the turkeys so they are most likely Gobblers. I suppose there could be a Bearded Lady in the mix. The deer have probably shed their antlers by now, but they appear to be does. The turkeys scratch around for food in the snow as do the deer. I suppose they were helping each other with their dinner reservations. It is not your gorgeous close up, but I think it does tell its own story. Possibly a candidate for the current contest.

Excellent timing and keen eye, showing us a beautiful scene of 6 deers & 6 turkeys. I'm with Sandi, I feel really bad for the poor wild animals, we even have more snow.

It's quite a shot, Tick. Our deer are having a rough time of it this winter. Blue and I see them on practically every walk. They like the Cedar trees on a ridge above our place, but they can only reach so high... and the cold has been relentless.

They are so at ease. They must have seen that you didn't carry your riffle, or someone else must have told them that they aren't meant to be present at the dinner table (now!! LOL).

I like to agree with you OFT (Owd Fella Tick) that it's a rare occasion to see them together in the open field. Glad that you 'shoot' them, with your camera this time.

Could be a good entry for the contest indeed.

Regards, Cornelius.

PS: did your grandson won the basketball match?

The snow covered ground makes them look very conspicuous. It is hard for all animals when the weather is like that. Good image and it will be a good entry Tick.

The winter is often a desperate game of survival for wildlife, while the snow is a major negative they can take some comfort in the fact the hunting season closed.

A good observation on your part Tic, & a fine photograph, it's just as well you regularly carry your camera. (o:

So I take it that the house specialty is a drum stick wrapped in venison. Or do the stuff the deer with turkeys and deep fry the whole thing? A nice capture of the local wildlife, TicK. Best of luck in the contest.
