There is nothing fancy about this photo, but there is nothing fancy about the lifestyle the Amish choose to live. I always carry a pocket camera when I am on my daily walk and shot this on the sly. Their lifestyle does not lend itself to photographs, but they don't say anything when you snap one. The power lines are everywhere they go, except home. The roads they take in life are definitely the ones less traveled. Here is one in my gallery that shows another hardship of their lifestyle.

I recall first meeting the Amish in Lancaster, PA where they'd sell handcrafts, quilts and Shoofly Pie! I've always been impressed by the lifestyle they live and I respect their strong values. Thanks for sharing this one TicK.

Man has only one life Tick. Why somebody would want to make it unnecessarily uncomfortable is beyond my comprehension. This is a beautiful shot of the coach on the tree lined road.

OFT (Owd Fella Tick), although I, like Raj, don't understand the usefulness of imposing restrictions on yourself, it's up to them to determine how to live as long as they don't want to impose their typical lifestyle to others.
In my small country we have similar groups as well. They aren't allowed to have even a TV at home, but having a computer with internet access is not a problem. Do you understand? I don't.

Thanks for this very nice capture. Your entry for the contest?

Regards, Cornelius.

It is a very difficult lifestyle but it is rooted in their religious beliefs so I respect the right to religious freedom. I have seen Amish in Illinois, Indiana and Pennsylvania and their farms are beautifully cared for and their food quite old fashioned and delicious. I like this shot very much as it speaks to a quieter time and place.

We also have the Amish and Mennonite communities in some areas of Ontario...your capture is a very good one for the contest depicting both a quiet road and a lifestyle few would choose...great entry SOT and best of luck.

I find the Amish fascinating as you know Tic, so I'm grateful for any photographs of them. Apparently the pressures of the 21st century are starting to show in their communities, & the old order is on the defence.

Excellent shot for a discreet snap, thanks for sharing.

I have a Amish friend who breeds Morgan Horses in Shipshewana, Indiana . Shipshewana has a large population of Amish , Mennonite and Potawatomi Native Americans . Since of course my friend doesn't have a phone and such his Mennonite neighbor handles all the calls on the horses since he does have a phone and a computer. It is interesting how they trade things and work out the details of the horse business . They use a Mennonite owned horse shipping line to send horses they sell across the country . They deal with the some of the Potawatomi in trade for them training some of their horses . It is quite the network they have set up . It is a hard life but I suppose one they are use to living . This is a great shot that shows their life style very well . I like how you kept everything as you saw it or has they see it and live it . Simple . Excellent contest entry .

I still remember the first of yours that I saw. A couple in a buggy just cresting a hill, coming straight at you , and a forested area in the far background.

Always love your Amish photos Tick - the one on the link is one of my all time favorites on Caedes. I keep it on my screen saver year round. The colors in this present photo are so lovely - beautiful blue sky and brilliant green trees. (Is Missouri that green already or is this from your bin?)
