This 28-foot, 6900-pound cast bronze sculpture by Ivan Mestrovic, now hangs in the Atrium of the Gonda Building at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. It once hung on the outside of the Mayo Clinic building. It supposedly depicts the human desire for independence and self-realization. He seems to be puzzled by the lady texting on her phone. You can read more about it here.

I thought this was funny at the time I took it, not realizing there would be a humorous contest sometime in the future. I was going to mention something about texticles, but thought I better not. Hope you see the humor too.

I definitely see the humor/irony in striving for self realization and striving to get a good signal on your cell!! An excellent entry Tick.

I laughed at Richie's comment. This makes a funny contrast and an ideal entry for the contest Tick. Good luck.

Well, Tick, I am so glad you decided not to mention what you mentioned... It is a very unique situation (she looks so small). Maybe she is texting that "To get ahead, you must get under a good man and work your way up." Great shot. Richie has about got this one covered (more so than the statue covered anything) so I will agree with his sentiment that this is great for a humorous contestant Tick. Good Luck.

Tick, I found the article you linked to very informative and without knowing anything about the artist or his work, I can see the humorous thought of the picture you have taken. However, after reading about this man, his positions he took against the NAZI's and Mussolini, the meaning of his work, I did walk away with a deep appreciation of his seriousness in the world around him and how he viewed and conducted his life. Thanks for the link. ~~ John

Owd Fella Tick (OFT),

Mestrovic said of the sculpture: "It must be a sculpture important for its artistic expression......."
Think that the lady does not realize that she had placed herself in such a context now. Think to me that she has visited the clinic that much, for any reason that this might be, that she even didn't notice this huge sculpture anymore. Texting with her cell phone has become for her a higher priority rather than admiring this artwork.
If so, it's not only a humorous context but a poignant and or ironic one as well.

A very intriguing photograph Owd Fella!

Regards, Cornelius.

I wonder what Ivan Mestrovic would make of your title, & woman below Tic? kind of ironic hey. A tall image, & thought provoking upload.

Edit: Just seen this in the Humorous Contest sorry Tic I didn't realise, besides I can't find my Mr Funny head right now.

I read your link and appreciate the serious side but the contrasting figures tickle my funny bone as well. Richie's comment added to that :)
I believe she just took a photo from below and is studying his form.
Great entry
