The Eagles were out in force yesterday. They were feeding on deer carcases. I counted five adults eagles and four juveniles. One of the deer was next to the highway and the other was in the middle of a field. I presume both had been struck by vehicles. If you look closely at the Bald Eagle, you can see deer hide in his talons. There really wasn't a good place to get without getting run over by passing vehicles or scaring away the diner patrons. I wasn't in the mood to become dinner for the Eagles so I did the best I could. At one time there were five Eagles in this tree and four on the ground. I never tire of seeing them or pursuing the perfect shot.

I would surmise that the deer carcasses were a tasty treat for the eagles - a gourmet meal perhaps!!! Its so nice that you have the eagles in your area and you were able to get this great shot. Nice capture Tick!!! p.s. The female eagle in Decorah, Iowa has laid two eggs and is sitting on the nest with a possible third egg on the way:-):-):-)

I suspect where these birds are concerned you have to grab the opportunity whenever and however it presents itself and you did a great job with this shot especially given the vantage point available to you...well done SOT.

Road kill is a plentiful source of food for Australia's wedgetail eagle. Eagles are certainly fascinating birds and I really enjoy your captures of them.

Even though you didn't get the shot you wanted, you DID get to see them doing what they love to do. I see dead deer all over the place here, but the only birds they attract are some sort of buzzard, I guess. This shot turned out excellent, Tick.

This is a very good shot with the eagles, the leafless tree and that blue sky Tick. I can see a bit of fur on the talons of the eagle.

I also never see them in the wild and this is a wonderful shot under less than ideal conditions.

My analysis.... Second bird is immature. Note the color of its beak, tail feathers and head. Adult has a tasty dinner. Immature is hoping for left overs or a handout.

Your did well to get two in one shot.
Can't help feeling sorry for the deer.
They are fine looking birds but I can not help feeling a little afraid of them - even though I never saw one in the flesh.
We have no eagles in NZ although before they became extinct we had the largest eagle in the world (Haast's Eagle (Aquila moorei)) that had claws like a tiger's. Nightmare stuff !

Tick - Venison - enjoyed by a number of animals. Now, if only these birds knew that you were taking their photo and moved to an open spot and posed...
