Tribute To Victims In France

I feel so sorry for all the victims in France in the most recent attacks by terrorists. This photo was taken in Strasbourg, France on August 16, 1984. My wife and I were in Europe on vacation and were enjoying ourselves without the fear of terrorists. Plane travel was safe and easy; and I think the world was a better place. This group of fellow travelers posed for me and seemed happy to do so.

Photo taken with Canon 35mm, scanned and converted to b/w.

Yes It's a sad world we now live in and will it get better that is the question..Or do we revert back to the barbarism of the middle ages..Some people are hell bent on taking us there..Nice to see a happy picture and my days of flying are over.....R.

Yes, traveling in those days was so much simpler and it felt good to explore different parts of the world - now you have to wonder if it safe to leave your home for a concert! Moving tribute Tick and a picture that reminds me of the old Coke commercials "Id like to teach the world to sing . . ."

Hello Owd Fella Tick (OFT),

In the first place I like to say that I'm glad that you're posting again.

Referring to your comment on this post and your narrative above, I like to correct two minor details:

1. It wasn't me watching the soccer game between France and Germany, but our German friend Raj;

2. There were no victims in Brussels, Belgium but only in Paris, France. Probably some of the perpetrators came from Brussels.

It's anyhow an act of terror in which (up till now) 129 not guilty people were killed and 352 people were, most seriously, injured.

Therefore I can repeat what I've said before:
What has happened last night in Paris, France is in my opinion a blatant and barbaric attack by, probably brainwashed, fanatics on our universal civilized society.

My thoughts and prayers are with relatives and friends of those who have been killed or injured in this terrible attack.

R.I.P for those who lost their lives.

Hope that the injured can recover quickly.

Thanks for your very fine image, my friend on which the world was, relatively seen, a better place.

I read today that there was one American who was killed. It will come to the States again but not while Obama is president (you can read into that whatever you want). But as soon as he leaves office, look out. Welcome back Tick. Now...Sit/Stay!

A good capture of this nostalgic scene, Tick. Different times and different worries when terrorism was still a local event and rarely crossed national borders. Now sadly the whole world is a stage for any idiot to act out upon.

Nice to see you here again Tick. You are quite right about the world having been a much safer place in the eighties for travelling and generally in one's normal life. Crime rates are soaring up and radicalization of certain religious fanatics have made many places dangerous to live in or travel to. Nice shot of the happy looking group.

Great shot! This whole issue is a mountain of very dry kindling for a political conversation. I could go on for countless paragraphs about these people, but it wouldn't do anything but state my opinion. I saw a video last night showing the invasion of the refugee's and it is very very frightening! Europe needs to wake up right this very moment and fight back against the hoards at their gates.
