This owl is also called the Barn Owl or the Hoot Owl. I like those names better. When I first saw this owl on the fence post, all I had was my Nikon Coolpix S9500 point & shoot camera. I took a few shots with it and then drove home to get my Nikon D7000 and 70-300 lens. When I returned it was gone from this fence post. I had almost given up when I spied it on another fence post. That's when I got this shot. The background and the colors are completely different between the two cameras. Perhaps I need to change the settings on the D7000. The colors seem brighter on the Nikon Coolpix S9500. It sure was a patient little fella until I pushed my luck.

Another super shot of this magnificent Barn Owl - looks like a painting between the 2 shots - amazing he stayed around for so long hoping to spot his meal

His hunger must have kept in the area, it probably was a good hunting spot, it does have a look of a painting. tigz=^..^=

---Perhaps I need to change the settings on the D7000.---

I have a good experience by presetting the WB of my Nikon bodies permanently to 'clouded', Tick. Please give it a try.

I've seen that the 'hunter' has given you a second opportunity for a photo shoot. Maybe it expected from you a mouse or some other rodent as reward. Don't disappoint it, ☺ .

Although there are differences in colors indeed, both images are good. Well done anyhow, Owd Fella!

I agree with Mr. C on the white balance setting - I use that when outdoors with my Nikons - I turn it off if shooting in a greenhouse of which I do a lot. This is excellent and a lucky catch by you.

Apparently an indecisive fellow, always 'sitting on the fence' lol...another good shot of him...I think SEA is likely your best bet for advice on settings...I do like the color here.

This one really is so cool. I like the colors and can only suggest, stick with this camera, its a good one :)

Maybe take some raw meat to him on your next visit. Though some animals and birds will not eat something that is already dead and some will only eat something that is. Hum, don't you just hate someone rambling on and on...

I like the colouring in this one best - what a fine capture - not something one sees every day !

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Another good shot of the owl with fine details. Changing the white balance can make quite a difference in the color. I keep it on Auto when I am not sure whether the light is bright or medium etc.

So which one is closer to the real color, Ron? I myself really like the warm coloring of this one, although I'm not sure if the blur was because of the P&S or if it was intentional. My adopted mom collected owl images and knick knacks for years, and although I like them myself I was never sure what the attraction was for her, until someone pointed out that perhaps it was because my adopted dad resembled one so. ;oD

I've read the posts to your two images of this owl and what you said about the two. I have to say how great it is to get a chance to take a picture of a great subject like this... Lucky you! My opinion is that the white balance can make an image range from cool to warm and beyond normal if so desired. Both images are good. I like the cool tones for my own tastes. Great captures Tick. On my Canon SX50 point and shoot, I like landscapes, but prefer to take wildlife with my interchangeable lens camera.
