I discovered this Catbird sitting on the well pump in my back yard. It generally sits there early in the morning. I believe this is the female. The male comes around once in a while and is a bit more colorful. He doesn't linger long. I suspect he is out gathering food for the youngsters.

This is my entry for SATURDAY NIGHT AT THE MOVIES. The Catbird Seat is a short story written by James Thurber. I read it many years ago and now I plan on reading it again. It was also made into a movie entitled The Battle of the Sexes starring Peter Sellers. It shows that no one does comedy like the English.

"If you weren't such a drab, ordinary little man," she said, "I'd think you'd planned it all. Sticking your tongue out, saying you were sitting in the catbird seat, because you thought no one would believe me when I told it! My God, it's really too perfect!"--Quote from the The Catbird Seat.

The Photojournalism Gallery has been approved. A big thanks to all involved who made this a possibility. Special thanks to Caedes, Mimi, Cat and SAW.

You got a good shot of the bird and I see from your text that it is just the right photo for this title.

You are so right, British comedy is hilarious...I still remember the old 'Carry On...' movies...I don't recall if I've seen this movie but it sounds like one I'd love to see being a big fan of Peter Sellers...a marvelous capture of this plump little bird and great portrayal of this movie title...thank you for another super entry for SNATM!

Owd Fella Tick (OFT), congratulations!
Thanks to everyone who have contributed to achieve this result!

The 'Battle of the Sexes' is an unknown film to me, probably due to my former career. When sailing at the high seas, the communication possibilities were very limited. In this era it's quite different now. Because of satellite communication one can almost view any recent film now.
So I'm 'forced' to give my comment only based on your image. And that's a good one (again)!

With their unique cry, the catbirds are fun to watch flitting about. If you could only train this one to work the pump handle and draw some water for you.

Capture is terrific, and what a thrill.... I will check out the book and the movie, sounds intriguing. Really love the birdie and just pausing on this well pump is perfect... timing is just right! Just noticed the comment about the photojournalism.... sounds like this is a very promising category.
