I was visiting with a 92 year old man at the Nursing Home the other day about the old house where he used to live. He said they thought about trying to restore it years ago but it was going to be too expensive. He also told me is was a "Sears Home." He said it was built in 1913 and he bought it when he returned home from the army during the Korean War (1950-53). As you can see it is slowly falling to the ground.

I'm guessing it is model 52 which you can see HERE. There is also more information about Sears prebuilt homes: prices, models and how to order on the link. I didn't have a clue Sears did this. It is estimated they sold over 100,000 homes from 1908-1940.

I can imagine Pa running in from a trip to the outhouse, catalog in hand exclaiming: "Ma, I've found our new home!" Hopefully he hadn't used that page.

Texture is my own. A possible contest entry.

I'm slowly falling to the ground also! I was aware Sears was selling these prefab homes back in the day. What a wonderful company which is also slowly falling to the ground due to poor management and the internet.

A good black and white and should you enter it into the contest, my best wishes go out to you and model 52.

I think this is a great shot and the post-work only adds to it - I predict it would do well in the contest.

I like the work you've done on this old house. I didn't realize Sears had so many different styles of homes.

Owd Fella Tick (OFT), the Sears phenomenon is of course not known on the other side of the big pond. This doesn't mean that your narrative and accompanying photo (or vice versa) would be less interesting. The opposite is the case.
Even though this former home is a prefab house, it is a shame that it's (almost) being lost that way, because it's a part of the American historical heritage .
Good and perfect B&W photograph. If this will be your entry for the current contest, I wish you the best of luck.

It is obvious that this house wasn't built to last a century Tick. A rare find and a good photo of it. No, he didn't use the paper fully but tore out the photo and description and then used the rest. 😃

I like the texture you added, and I had heard of that Sears sold prehab homes, but over the years I had all but forgotten that fact. Thanks for the refresh, and this is a good contest entry. tigz=^..^=

...A sort of late 19th / early 20th Century precursor of the modern "Drop & Set" modular homes... There's more of these old "Sears Homes" out there than you think!

Thanks for sharing this, Cap'n... Faved...
