These Grasshoppers are Mating now and can be found anywhere near the swamp. Generally 3-4 inches in length. See Owl eating one in Dead On Target. More Info on this subject here. Have a Great Day ! E J
fantastic shot. it kinda gives me the creeps because it's so big. if anyone ever wanted to see this creature close up. this is the perfect opportunity. excellent detail.
Outstanding! I can't believe these grasshopper's get that big & now I know why owls love to feast on them. The detail is magnificent. Straight to my faves ... very well done EJ.
They say insects are more nutritious than nuts, & if you believe an early Indiana Jones movie some folks still enjoy eating them. :o)
Fab macro Froggy, have you got any A1 sauce ?
Always remember - Follow the Yellow Brick Road, it will lead you to the Emerald City and OZ A very nice place to be. Trust me on this one, I live there. The Lion **** MY CAEDES GALLERY****Another Site I'm AT - MY DA HOME PAGE
I'm very impressed with the detail here E.J. Great detail but I have to tell you that these guys give me the creepies. Still a excellent shot though. sandi♥
This is a dynamite shot, EJ! Great detail... it's so big (she said with awe)... but of course down South things get really big, too big... someday I'll tell you my Florida spider story...

Excellent shot with such great details. One can count the hairs on his legs! I have never seen a blck grasshopper before. Thanks for sharing this wonderful image EJ:
Superb capture, superb title. It's great when someone calls a picture something that influences the way you look at it. I can't look at it now without seeing how black, devious and evil it looks. Brilliant work Ed.
Several of my photos are available for purchase in larger format at Shutterpoint, and some are also available in high quality framed prints at http://djholmes.imagekind.com/
Great capture! Brings back memories. Growin' up in Alabama in the projects , two blocks from the University campus (Roll Tide), in elementary school we would finish our lunch and take our sandwich bags out on the playground and fill them up with these monsters. Then we would stuff them in the drain spouts and retrieve them after school. Take 'em home and scare mom half to death with 'em. Then we'd let 'em go. Anyway, very nice shot.
I much appreciate all the comments I receive about my images, but please excuse me if I don't always reply. My interest in Caedes is exceeding my time available!
