Shutter 1/1000! No wonder he/she is caught so still in mid flight. A wonderful image, EJ -Thanks for this one.

It is indeed a GREAT egret capture! I get to see the whole underbody of this amazing bird as he/she is in flight and taking part in nest making activities I presume. Such wonderful shots, EJ. You could put together a wonderful book on the Great Egrets with all your super photos of them I'm sure.

Have read your tech talk with much interest E.J. What has wondered me the most, is that with a shuttertime of 1/1000 you had still an aperture of 6.3. Thinks the credits for that go to both the sunny weather and the chosen ISO value. Most of the times I'm using an ISO of 200. Will try a higher ISO number myself when the weather conditions are good. Never too old to learn!
Excellent post of course. Taken with great photographic skills.
My compliments!

Beautiful EJ! Thanks for the tech. Looks like you've got the formula locked in pretty well. (My personal favorite is 5.6 1/2000 to stop the wing tips. But many like just a little motion blur.) You caught the PERFECT body and wing positions! Lovely! Alan

Hey EJ! Just to follow up on my earlier comment -- I checked my favorite reference site for your lens. Looks like that 70-300 VR actually gets sharper above 5.6 all the way to f11. So forget what I said about my favorite setting of 5.6. That's just my (Canon 70-200 2.8 IS) equipment that happens to be optimized a little lower. (I shouldn't have tried second-guessing you.) And as I said earlier, "Beautiful!". Have a great one!
