Saw this photo in queue when it was up for approval.. and it did appeal to me.

Composition is good good. Subject matter is different (in it's presentation) and overall does evoke some emotion.

Did the usual, as in.. downloaded it, messed around with it some in Photoshop.

Tried.. a straight B & W conversion.

Tried.. adjusting Colour (both; Hue and Saturation ... particularly with respect to the Reds).

I think.. think, that is ... in applying the HDR your artistic aim was to bring out, or, enhance a 3D presentation.

Unfortunately, in that sea of 'red' ... a lot of the dimensionality is lost. To my eyes, anyways.

Look at the cracks in the land/sand ... their lines are only differentiated from those of the strands/blades of plants/grasses ... by thickness alone.

So..

Maybe a lower camera position might have served to highlight the shells themselves some more. And allow the HDR to underscore the shape/colour of the shells.. and in turn, relegating the area surrounding the shells to even more of a secondary role.

Perhaps, even coming in tighter might also be a consideration and another suggestion to consider for next time.

Being bold here.. the strength of your composition is carrying this one as it now sits.

And there's more to this one, methinks.

Great to see something abit different, and great it is too. Its quite a sad tale about these Clams, but your capture and presentation makes for a real interesting image. Well done!
